The interesting pitch stat that has got Liverpool fans talking on Twitter

Simon Brundish is often our go-to guy when it comes to Liverpool FC statistics.

He does great things with our friends at Anfield Index, among others.

And this tweet shared two days ago – focussing on the size of pitches Liverpool perform best on – has got an extraordinary response online.

Brundish shows that Liverpool perform much better on smaller pitches – and points out that only one of our final six away games is on a ‘big’ one.

Anfield, of course, is small – just the way we like it!

Brundish also gives his followers a potential reason for this stat – that in simple terms – it’s easier to gegenpress on a smaller pitch – which makes total sense!

Old Trafford is 7140 sq. metres; the exact same dimensions as West Ham’s London Stadium.

In both games, we looked lethargic in the press and struggled to create many opportunities – but looked rampant and energetic at home to Bournemouth and Watford either side!

It’s not the defining factor – of course it isn’t – but it’s likely to have played a part nonetheless.
