Republik of Mancunia stops selling ‘Without Killing Anyone Shirts’

By Antoine Zammit         (Other posts by Antoine Zammit)

I have mentioned this  site called Republik of Mancunia before.

http://therepublikofmancunia.com/

In the last few days they were forced to stop selling the shirt with the wording

“We’ve won it three times, we’ve won it three times, without killing anyone, we’ve won it three times”

This is great news and I must personally congratulate Spreadshirt (the printers of the shirt) for making the right decision. There decision was based on the recent events and the pressure put on them by Liverpool Supporters .

We can have our banter and call each other names but no matter what we do we should leave Hillsborough, Heysel & Munich out of all this. There is no justification to use the death of people in any of this kind of banter.

Hopefully their supporters at Old Trafford will follow suit.

Congrats to those who supported this campaign.

  1. It does no good to chant about any of these tragedies.

    I hope you find peace.

  2. Cat says:

A question for the Mancs here.

How do you feel about your club’s players singing it after winning in Moscow? Do you think that it’s a good image for your club to give their unofficial backing to the song?

Never thought I’d find myself agreeing with a Man U fan, but I do agree that the memory of Heysel shouldn’t be swept under the carpet. But the songs aren’t the best way in the world to keep it to the forefront. LFC didn’t do themselves any favours by denying blame for 20 years, but the singing of all of the songs is just childish, petty and sick.

And by the way, I don’t condone the singing of the other Munich songs either; my United supporting Uncle would hunt me down and give me a piece of his mind!

  3. Scott the Red says:

Sick? John Smith blaming Chelsea fans for the deaths Liverpool fans caused. Sick? Denying the blame for 20 years whilst remaining outraged with South Yorkshire police for not accepting the blame for Hillsborough.

Reminding people our conscience is clean on the continent is not sick. We haven’t killed anyone and we have won three European Cups.

Hillsborough and Munich songs are sick. Heysel songs confront you with the past your club denied.

  4. Markymark says:

Why are there so many Utd fans on a Liverpool website? It has NEVER crossed my mind once to go and post something on a man utd website.

Whatever the reason, songs or references to people who have been killed for any reason are sick. Those people were someones father, brother, uncle, mother, sister etc. I suggest you would find it rather a different matter if a member of your family had lost their lives in such horrible circumstances regardless of who was to blame.

  5. Julie says:

It’s still got sod all to do with you Scott.

And any fan from either side who throws the dead up in peoples faces SHOULD HANG THEIR HEAD IN SHAME.

It’s a game, football, you should be there for the love of your team, not to point score each other by taking the piss out of the dead.

And your “slogan” does take the piss out of the dead Scott, by trying to score points on the opposing side.

Every other team could wear t-shirts with that same slogan on about Man U, remember the crystal palace 1? I remember him, do you…..?

  6. DM says:

Scott the Red. You make absolutely no response – YET AGAIN the points raised in my comment. You have continued your ignorant selective amnesia to what has been put so as to further your nonsensical point.

Of course you are entitled to a view. Everyone in football & beyond is. The point I make, In which you have made no attempt whatsoever to reply to is that this is simple low-life, sickening ‘point-scoring’ of the worst kind. Its undeniable. Your sole argument is that its justified to the cause, to bring attention our wrongdoing? A wrongdoing which regardless of our then Chairmans said words has been regretfully and remorsefully on the whole since its initial aftermath. Someting pointed out in my comment which you have simply ignored.

This idea of us not caring or trying to sweep it under the carpet whilst only been concerned with ourselves couldnt be further from the truth. It holds absolutely no basis whatsoever! If you were intelligent enough & of a fair mind you would look past the easy face-value ignorance & look into the actual response the Liverpool fans have of the tragedy. My own Dad & Uncle included. Perhaps he is lying about their feelings, sweeping it under the carpet without care! You’re sure of this of course! There is also a memorial page on our official website in rememberance of the tragedy. Please feel free to read.

My Dad, who was there, actually made good friends with a Juve fan before the game. They discussed what happened afterwards & have remaind in touch to this day in spirit of friendship. On discussion with my father about these so called ‘point-scoring’ , tit-for-tat’ chants he is infact sickened. Particularly with regards to what is so blatantly & awfully an involvement created through bitterness & hatred -POINT SCORING. Perhaps you would like to inform him yourself of your justified response. Yes, some Juve fans turned their back on our apology. They are clearly entitled too and to an certain extent have no feeling of ever showing forgiveness.

Again also, in continuing your self styled self righteous, morally virtuous response, you make no reference to your own wrongdoings? Which is quite simply pathetic considering your argument?

And if you’re so proud of your so called clean european travelling past maybe you can evaluate what happened in 1978 when you rioted in St.Etienne, and were almost thrown out of Europe? In fact were at one point. Or maybe perhaps the few Mancunians that ended up in prison in Rome only just a couple of years back?

Feel free to repsond to these events also, or just simply ignore them and continue being so so so morally virtuous!

  7. Terri Anne says:

Scott the Red, you are an absolute idiot. I suppose you would condone a shirt with ’96 Not Enough’ on the back because you are puportedly ‘blameless’. I don’t think so.

    Grow up. Immediately!

  8. United fan in peace.

I agree Antoine, singing about clubs’ tragedies and disasters should have NO place in football. Football after all is just a sport and banter is ok, but using human tragedies to derile a club is pass sickening and it reflects shame on all the supporters of any particular club and it casts the character of the club and its administration in a very negative light. Hillsborough, Heysel and Munich should be left out of football chants (slurs. I know how it feels when I hear or see some loser singing about the Munich disaster so United fans, especially United fans, who know so well how it feels to think about the Munich Air disaster and how it feels when rival fans sing them.

Any so-called supporter of Man United that sing chants based on tragedies shouldn’t even say that they support United as our club does not endorse such behaviour.

  9. Scott the Red says:

DM – Your dad and uncle felt terrible. I’m sure loads of other Liverpool fans felt/feel terrible. I’m not criticising those individual Liverpool fans, I’m criticising your football club. Whilst the fans there may have been totally shame-faced and remorseful, your club denied it then and continued the denial for 20 years. Had this not happened, the chant never would have arisen. The fact that during this 20 year period your club and fans were campaigning for South Yorkshire police to own up to THEIR wrong-doings is hypocrisy of the highest order.

Did we kill anyone in St. Etienne? Did we kill anyone in Rome. The chant is “without killing anyone” not “without any scuffles, punch-ups, jibbing or trouble”. No person (football fan or otherwise) is totally clean, everyone has skeletons in the cupboard, but bad behaviour which has bruised a few ribs or broken a few hearts isn’t on the same page as bad behaviour which has taken away people’s husbands/brothers/son etc. How moronic to compare United fans in Rome to Liverpool fans at Heysel.

Terri Anne – As I have said several times (reading not your strong suit?) to compare Hillsborough chants with Heysel chants is wrong. Hillsborough chants mock the dead, Heysel chants are about our clean conscience and Liverpool FC’s denial. Liverpool fans use the comparison to shut the Heysel talk down. I’m not mocking the dead. If my brother or dad died in a situation like Heysel, I’d be happy for ANY fan to point the finger of blame in the right direction, as that certainly beats the lies of John Smith. You would want the culprits named and shamed – Liverpool fans should understand that better than anyone after Hillsborough.

  10. redmist says:

Pretty sure you scousers wouldn’t be acting so high and mighty (again!) if you had seen the footage of your own Spirit of Shankly official end of season party last year…..shame on you all. So quick to condemn others and equally quick to ignore your own ill behaviour.
A song about nobody dying is not the same as a song gloating about the death of others. Get real.

  11. billabongbob says:

Guys, as a life long Manchester United fan from the early 70′s I have lived through the tragedies that footbal has thrown up, Heysel, Bradford, Hillsborough etc and every time I have been saddened that for the sake of a game some one has died. It doesn’t matter who is to blame because the fans have their version, the authorities have theirs and some where in between is the truth. As for saying that no one has died whilst winning 3 cups, we can only say “but for the grace of god go I” we have just been lucky and shouldn’t really be so proud that we have had scuffles etc but no one has died! Go watch the game, sing songs, go home. Its only a game!!

  12. DM says:

Scott the Red. I make no direct reference between Heysel and your behaviour in Rome. I was merely proceeding to point out your own wrong doings which you seem to make no reference of.

You did however kill 2 fans in Middlesbrough 1980. Where is your acceptance of guilt? You did also kill a Palace fan in 1990! Where is your acceptance of guilt. By your reckoning – we would be clearly entitled to sing ‘we’ve won it 18 times without killing anyone’ in the league. We would be clearly justified to sing ‘we won it 7 times wihtout killing anyone’ in the FA Cup’? How pathetic?….I shudder with the sickening lowly thought.

We will forever agree to disagree on this point Im sure, but this is just undeniably blatant ‘point scoring’ at its worst. Your using the Hillsbrough incident as a cover for your justification. This is proven with your ‘Justice for the 39′. A mock tongue in cheek reference to our own stance.

We won the European Cup 5 times. We are the outstanding British success story on the continent. Our song ‘we won it 5 times’ is a celebration fo this, if not a little gloat on our rivals. You clearly cannot accept this and desperately grasp at straws to make some cheap undignifed chant back in response. This is FACT!
If Heysel occured in 1985 & Hillsbrough occured in 1989 – why have you waited until our chanting of ‘we’ve won it 5 times’ before taking on your moral stance? This is just so obvious.

There are plenty of United fans who agree on this thankfully. Perhaps people as such on both sides can assure a bettering of the hatred and ensure that futurre generations can grow up with a mutual respect. You and your belligerant ‘Republik of Mancunia’ is certainly not this!

  13. gravedigga says:

    its football game…
go to the game…support your team with passion…do the chants…go home.

if u dont like any chants….watch it at home…turn down the volume…
    that simple.

    this is football…c’mon!

    United fan in peace

I apologise for straying onto your boards, but I felt compelled to comment by the impassioned debate.

Here the debate appears considered and reasoned, a marked contrast to that which I have encountered in most other places, where after two or three comments it rapidly degenerates into puerile and freqently ignorant insults.

The quality of discussion here does all Liverpool fans, and historic club you represent, a lot of credit.

    Congratulations

  15. Saad says:

As for why so many Man Utd fans are here…Its always fun and amusing to listen to what you folks have to say. Its always bitter, your desperation is obvious, you’re always confused and often there is infighting amongst fans split on Rafa.

Next time be more specific and ask why people watch Comedy Central!

  17. RedMancRab says:

It boils my blood to the extreme to hear chants referring to Munich or Hillsborough, I wasn’t born when Munich occurred but was unfortunate enough to witness the horror of Hillsborough…..I will never allow myself to use the death of rival fans as a yardstick to condone abusive chanting, To all who lost their lives in the Munich ACCIDENT…R.I.P and to all of those (whom in my opinion) Were Sentenced to Death by the police at Hillsborough….God bless you souls….At times of tragedy Football should always Unite as one
