The Brazilian is out of contract in the summer and as yet has given little indication to where his future lies but in today’s edition of Spanish newspaper Sport, seven clubs including Liverpool are said to be interested.

Manchester United, Juventus, Inter Milan, PSG and Borussia Dortmund are all also named as possible destinations for he 31-year-old.

It’s no wonder the club are being linked with a right-back given the ever so likely exit of Glen Johnson in the summer, nor when it’s one of the clear quality Alves possesses.

It’d be easy to dismiss the rumours given Brendan Rodgers’ recent usage of the 3-4-3 formation but surely that means the move makes perfect given Alves essentially likes to play as a right winger at times.

Granted failing to renew Johnson’s deal and bring in Alves might leave us one man short in terms of numbers at the back if we continued with the 3-4-3 but given recent links to a number of defensive names it seems we’re also working for a signing in that department.

The only stumbling block could be wages and whether you believe Alves is worth his likely astronomical wage packet.

At 31 and as he ages you’d likely expect him to gradually reduce the number of games he plays.

It would certainly be a signing of intent, however, and we’d be securing a proven and established winner in our squad.
