Five Liverpool victories against West Brom: Including Luis Suarez treble inspired win in 2013

Liverpool go to West Brom on Saturday desperate to get our top four challenge back on track. A victory at the Hawthorns will – albeit temporarily – move us to within four points of Manchester City, who currently occupy that final Champions League qualification spot.

Luckily, we have a good record against the Baggies, with only four defeats during the Premier League era. Overall, we have beaten them 59 times in the league.

Along the way, there have been some very convincing victories. Here are five of the best from recent times:

Liverpool 4-1 West Brom (October 2013)

A hat-trick from Luis Suarez killed off the game before the hour-mark at Anfield. A penalty with 25 minutes left from James Morrison may have perhaps given Steve Clarke’s men hope. However, Daniel Sturridge sealed the win with a little over ten minutes to go. Oh, the SAS! How we wish you were still doing the business.

Liverpool 3-0 West Brom (November 2008)

A brace from Robbie Keane would give us a 2-0 lead going into the interval. And it would fall to full-back Alvaro Arbeloa to round off the win with a third goal in the last minute. The Reds would go on to finish second in the Premier League that season, whilst West Brom failed to avoid relegation, finishing bottom.

West Brom 0-2 Liverpool (April 2006)

Djibril Cisse’s strike in the 38th minute was overshadowed by a landmark goal from club legend Robbie Fowler. Now enjoying his second stint with us, the forward would open the scoring in the 7th minute, and in the process, overtook Kenny Dalglish to become the club’s fifth highest goalscorer of all time.

West Brom 0-5 Liverpool (December 2004)

It was a Boxing Day to forget for the Baggies, as we strolled to victory. John Arne Riise got the only goal during the first-half. But after the interval, the floodgates flew open. Florent Sinema Pongolle and Steven Gerrard would make it 3-0 within ten minutes of the restart, before Riise and Luis Garcia rounded off the scoring in the final ten minutes.

West Brom 0-6 Liverpool (April 2003)

Towards the end of their first season in the Premier League, West Brom were taught a lesson before they headed back to the second tier. Four goals from Michael Owen, and a brace from Milan Baros completed the rout.
