The result has moved the Reds to within four points of a Champions League spot and has take Gerrard up a place in our all-time top scorers list.

For those of you in need of a history lesson, you can enjoy the top ten in full below:

10) Sam Raybould – 130

Played for Liverpool at the start of the 20th century, scoring 120 league goals in just 211 appearances. He would remain our record scorer for almost 40 years. He finished his playing career with Sunderland and Arsenal.

9) Harry Chambers – 151

Chambers spent 13 years at Liverpool between 1915 and 1928, although the First World War delayed his debut by four years. He finished his professional career with West Brom, where he was transformed into a centre-half.

8) Michael Owen – 158

Burst onto the scene as a teenager in the late 1990s. He scored 46 goals during his first two full seasons as a Liverpool player and enjoyed continued success until his move to Real Madrid in 2004, when injuries began to take their toll.

7) Kenny Dalglish – 172

His goals led the Reds to 22 major trophies, including three European Cup wins. He continued as Liverpool manager after his retirement from playing, staying until 1991. He returned for a second spell as boss in 2011.

6) Robbie Fowler – 183

Established himself as a Liverpool legend during his first spell at the club, which ran until 2001, when he joined Leeds United. He returned for a second spell in 2006, playing a useful bit-part role under Rafael Benitez.

5) Steven Gerrard – 184

A Liverpool player since 1987 and a first-team player since 1998, there are few bigger Liverpool heroes than our iconic midfielder, who has now played over 700 games for the club. His goal against QPR could be his last.

4) Billy Liddell – 220

The Scottish winger remains a celebrated figure at Anfield. He spent his entire career with Liverpool, eventually retiring in 1961, shortly before his 40th birthday. He scored over 300 goals if you were to count wartime games.

3) Gordon Hodgson – 241

The South African born forward joined the Reds in 1925 and went on to make over 300 appearances before joining Aston Villa and then Leeds United. He stayed in football as a manager until his untimely death in 1951.

2) Roger Hunt – 285

One of the heroes of England’s successful World Cup campaign in 1966. Despite being a huge asset to the Three Lions, he was even more important to Liverpool, helping us win our first FA Cup as well as the First Division title.

1) Ian Rush – 346

The Welshman was prolific in his first and second spells at Liverpool, taking a year out to play for Juventus in between. He eventually left the Reds for good in 1996 but his record remains and looks unlikely to be broken.
