Aspas makes hilarious Messi/Ronaldo comparison

Iago Aspas is not the awful footballer we once believed.

He endured an absolutely horrendous year at Anfield under Brendan Rodgers, in which he’ll forever be remembered for taking that corner to nobody in the loss to Chelsea which ruined our title race.

But since his return to Spain, he’s done outstandingly well – earning a regular spot in the national squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Last season for Celta Vigo, he bagged 26 goals in all competitions and is on six this term already.

Still, he doesn’t think he’s worthy of elite comparisons – as this conversation with a Spanish journalist about Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo proves!

We like humble footballers, and are happy Aspas has managed to rebuild a career that was badly damaged in England.

He’s not the only Liverpool flop who’s turned it around, either…

Just last week, Luis Alberto was called up to Spain, as was Suso, for exceptional form with Lazio and AC Milan respectively in Serie A.

We offloaded both with very little fuss, but it’s beginning to look like we should perhaps have taken more care with the duo.

Like Aspas, Suso has made the Spain squad after being branded ‘not good enough’ by Liverpool
