Klopp explains his ‘transfer phone-call’ policy

Liverpool have plenty of money to spend this summer, and a manager in Jurgen Klopp who’s proven he knows how to spend it…

Before this season, he brought in relegated Gini Wijnaldum, free transfer Joel Matip and inconsistent Sadio Mane – but all three have proven revelations.

Klopp’s record at Borussia Dortmund is even more inspiring, signing the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Mats Hummels, Shinji Kagawa, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, just to name a few…

According to the boss, he has work to do over the next few weeks in persuading our top targets to come – but doesn’t find this a chore – as it simply involves talking about how brilliant Liverpool is!

“Money-wise? We have enough money. That’s a difference, of course. We don’t hide more money then get it when we need it, it’s a normal business,” Klopp told the Independent.

“Now we have decisions that need to be done, negotiations or whatever. But it’s all good and we are prepared and we will see what will work out and what won’t.

“There is no training in the next few weeks. We fly to Australia (on Monday evening), we have a game, then fly back and the holiday starts for all of us.

“I have a little bit of work to do but it’s a few phone calls and a little bit of talking about wonderful things like football, Liverpool and other things, so it’s good.”

We’re not sure whether we’ll get all, some or none of them, but our primary targets have been very well publicised.

That’s Virgil Van Dijk for centre-back, Ryan Sessegnon for left-back, Naby Keita for central midfield and one of Mohamed Salah, Julian Brandt or Douglas Costa for the wing…

If we pick up, say, four of those – we’ll be in a brilliant position to attack next season’s Premier and Champions League campaigns.
