Coutinho: Why I’m staying at Liverpool

This will be music to the ears of Liverpool fans everywhere…

Coutinho has been discussing his future, amid multiple reports that huge clubs want to sign our Brazilian no.10 this summer.

Phil began the campaign brilliantly, until injury cruelly struck him down and stunted his progression.

Since the end of March though, he’s flourished, scoring seven goals in his past nine games and orchestrating our wins against West Ham and Southampton that confirmed our top four place.

It’s these kind of performances that will see him go down in Liverpool folklore, and that’s precisely why his head won’t be turned.

“Stay here and they will end up building a statue in your honour,” Coutinho told ESPN Brasil, reported by Sky Sports.

“Go somewhere else, to Barcelona, to Bayern Munich, to Real Madrid, and you will be just another player. Here you can be something more.

“I have a long contract with Liverpool. Speculation is for journalists only.

“We started the season very well, I started well. But then in the middle, the performance regressed,” added Coutinho.

“Then we bounced back, and I finished the season at a high level.

“The whole team is playing well. Sunday was a very important victory, and next season it’s the Champions League.”

On top of these quotes, Coutinho has a five year contract and a young family happy on Merseyside.

There really is no reason for him to leave and no reason for Liverpool to sell.

If he can stay healthy for the duration of next campaign, we can see Coutinho establishing himself as one of the best players on the planet…

He’s that good.
