Annual LFCNY Food Drive

Posted by

Every year the Liverpool Supporters Club in New York host an annual food drive to collect non-perishable items for the mission close to their home at the 11th Street bar. I ask any New York based Reds to get yourself down there and give what you can, when times are hard even the smallest donation can help someone less privileged than ourselves. Here’s the LFCNY Statement:

After the international break, it’s time to renew battle in the Premier League. This week we welcome the newest, richest kids on the block, Manchester City, to Anfield. Expect warm welcomes for Craig Bellamy and Gareth Barry….

As well as the match, we another important event happening on Saturday, the annual LFCNY Food Drive. Regulars at the 11th Street may have noticed the ever-growing lines outside the Mission close to the bar. As part of our aim to help the local community, we at LFCNY are collecting food donations for the Mission. All non-perishable food items are welcome, but in particular we’re looking for the following:

Dry Milk
Evaporated Milk
Cans of Tuna
Cans or Bags of Ground Coffee
Cooking Oil
Canned Fruit
Crackers
Granola Bars

If you need reminding why this is necessary, here are some sobering facts:

* 1.3 million New Yorkers rely on emergency food.
* 9,400 families in NYC will sleep in shelters tonight, an all-time high.
* 1.9 million New Yorkers live in poverty.
* 40% of families living in poverty in NYC have a working head of household.

Please look in your cupboards, or visit your local supermarket, and bring what you can. It’s time to remind New Yorkers that they Never Walk Alone.
