Like you, I want the glory days to come back. Like you, there are ex-players around the club who would make good managers. Heck we have in the academy the last manager to win the first division here. But let us step back a bit Kenny isn’t walking through the door to manage the first team no more. And why is that? I think he’s burnt out of managing. He’s managed three clubs since he left us, and you think after his Celtic days if he wanted to manage again, wouldn’t he?
If you believe reports and the internet, he’s been linked with Preston, Sheffield United, Liverpool, and the Scottish National team. And he never took over any of those. Now it may have been just media rumors on all of them, but you think if you have someone of his quality as a manager out there, he would have landed one of them. Football has change even in the years since he’s been out of the game. So it wouldn’t be smart for him to come out of managerial retirement for Liverpool.
To be honest, he has nothing to gain by coming back now. His legend is secure, his record is secure. The worst thing that could happen is he can’t adapt (probably not going to happen), and Liverpool slides down the table. If I were him, I’d stay in the academy and help the next generation of Liverpool players.
As people can guess even though I’m not old enough to have watched him live, he is and always be my favorite player at the club.
