A season not to forget

There we have it 2012-2013 season done and dusted, Rogers came in with a plan and stuck to it. At times we played like a dream, like the 80’s team of possession football and patience, then there was lack of plan b, lack of back up and sometimes lack of brain cells; as mistakes were made and left us chasing games to get the points. However in the second half of the season Rogers did show some inclination to changing formation, but maybe he hesitates doing this because he doesn’t have the players to change the formation as needed, that’s speculation and we will never know, maybe he would rather change the personal and not where they are on the pitch.

I’m only guessing here but I’m sure you are wondering what my opinion is on THE Suarez situation? I say go, I trust Rodgers to find young cheap class players with the money we get from him, and Rodgers has already gone after some defense for the squad; we really needed that, I just hope they’re quick too. As for replacing Mr S himself, I think Sturridge has shown since the ban why we have no need to worry (I haven’t forgotten Coutinho, I will get to him a bit.) but we could do with another center forward of the Sturridge type, comfortable on the ball and able to work in tight spots with ability to pass and provide assists. Suarez was prolific in front of goal, but he was also prolific at giving the ball away, look how Sturridge and Coutinho have shared goals and assists since the ban, that is what you need, forwards with an eye for goal but also an eye on your teammates.

Coutinho looks like a fantastic player, looking good since he arrived but awesome in the final month. I think he should spearhead the midfield, be that man coming from the middle of the park when we attack down the wing (he will probably be following in on his own pass anyway). Move Gerrard into the holding role. Double bonus of doing this move; is that he will provide a bit of muscle (lucas not really strong enough) as well experience to help with what will probably be a young defense.

I can’t really comment on the rest of the positions, but would really like to see Sterling stay and hook up with Countinho and Sturridge from out wide.

For me it will be a new center back pairing next season, Johnson and Enrique at full back, Gerrard holding, Countinho attacking Midfield, Sterling and new bloke on the flanks with Sturridge and new forward up front, 4-1-3-2 formation. If we are getting over run in midfield we go 4-2-3-1 to get control, then 4-1-4-1 to go after the game with a stronger midfield.

YNWA I’m ready for your “we can’t sell Suarez you muppet” comments.

Enjoy the summer, I’m off to watch some Aussie bashing in the Cricket and Rugby.
