Can Gerrard Inspire Liverpool To Glory After Mistake
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard made his biggest mistake of his career when he slipped in possession to allow Chelsea’s Demba Ba to race through on goal to score the vital opening goal on the stroke of half-time and ultimately lead to Liverpool’s first league defeat of 2014.
The Reds’ captain has been outstanding this season and no player at Anfield wants to win the league more than him. A league title is the only honour to have eluded the England captain in his illustrious career and he has been like a man possessed in recent weeks since his realisation that his dream may come true.
But football has a way of biting you on the backside and against Chelsea fate dealt Gerrard and his team a devastating blow in their title challenge with his mistake. The result means Liverpool have lost their advantage in the title race and Manchester City are now the team in pole position. It would be such a shame if Gerrard’s mistake was to cost Liverpool the title.
In an amazing Premiership season there could still be more twists to decide where the league title will go and it will be interesting to see if Gerrard can rally his troops for one final push to see his team to glory as he has done on numerous occasions throughout his career.
If Liverpool go on to win the Premiership then it will surely be Gerrard’s greatest moment.
