Reports in the Sunderland Echo suggest that the Black Cats have earmarked the 22-year-old as one of their top targets, as they look to strengthen their squad and avoid another relegation battle next term.
Sunderland are still far from safe from the drop this season. Dick Advocaat’s side are only one point clear of the bottom three with eight games remaining, and have Burnley breathing down their necks.
Ilori has been on loan at French side Bordeaux so far this season, and has been watched by Sunderland on a number of occasions. The Portuguese youth team player is yet to feature for the Reds first-team since his 2013 summer arrival…
Advocaat’s side already have another Liverpool centre-half – Sebastian Coates – on their books, but the Uruguayan has been restricted to just seven appearances in all competitions so far this season.
