Liverpool U21 coach drops new signing hint, despite Rodgers’ comments

If we didn’t already know that Christian Benteke was on the verge of signing for Liverpool, we do now.

The Under-21 manager Michael Beale dropped this statement during an interview, releasing the fact that we’re going to sign the Aston Villa forward.

“Players such as Roberto Firmino, Christian Benteke, Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner and Danny Ings bring fantastic talent and competition into the club,” said Beale, via the Echo.

We’re not sure how well this go down with Brendan Rodgers though, with the first-team manager flatly denying any knowledge of the Benteke deal in an interview following yesterday’s 2-0 Adelaide United victory – in typical ‘behind closed-doors’ Liverpool style.

The forward was in London yesterday to undergo a medical before completion of his £32.5m transfer, according to BBC Sport, so it’s not as if Beale has released any secret information – or alerted other clubs to out interest in a particular player!

Liverpool have one more game to play on the tour of the Far East, versus a Malaysia XI on Friday, before they’ll travel back to Europe to face HJK and Swindon before the Premier League campaign kicks off.

Let’s hope that the Benteke deal is done and dusted and he can take part in one of our remaining friendlies before our opening fixture versus Stoke.
