Fan Opinion : Why Have Liverpool Not Spent Money This Transfer Window ?

Posted by

So another transfer window has shut tight and Liverpool supporters are left scratching their heads as to why no players have been added to their threadbare squad. Only the addition of Steven Caulker on loan from Queens Park Rangers has been added.

Liverpool’s squad has been so stretched recently with the amount of fixtures and injuries that manager Jurgen Klopp has had to play a lot of kids in important cup ties to try and give some regular players some rest.

The FA Cup tie at home to West Ham last weekend was a prime example with Brannagan, Teixeira, Smith and Stewart all starting in an important cup tie, the youngsters did well but it was major risk Klopp had to take with his team selection against a full strength West Ham side that had already recorded two wins in the league over the Reds.

With so many long-term injuries, you would have thought the club would have been doing their utmost to help Klopp with recruitment but he is left to get on with what he has until the summer.

Season ending injuries to Gomez and Ings have been a real blow, but injury problems to Sturridge, Henderson, Origi, Coutinho, Skrtel, Sakho and Lovren have left Klopp short of options.

There were many names linked to Liverpool during the January transfer window, but once again there were no signings and it is a big worry as to how Klopp can produce a successful end to the season with the squad he has available.

I hope it is just a case of Klopp giving his squad a fair crack at playing for their futures until the summer before he starts making changes, because it is worrying if the owners are not backing him financially for transfers.

With Liverpool’s goalscoring problems this season, it seemed vital that a quality striker was needed and I fear that the season could end in disappointment unless Sturridge regains his fitness.
