Is Klopp Right To Play A Strong Side Against Augsburg ?
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp sat alongside Daniel Sturridge at Melwood today for his press conference, focusing on his team’s Europa League tie against Augsburg at Anfield tomorrow night.
The German revealed that Dejan Lovren, Joe Allen and Adam Lallana would all miss out, but he stressed that Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge would be starting against Augsburg.
Klopp wants to start a strong team in the hope that his team can find a “rhythm” to improve their inconsistent form.
The Reds’ boss also made it clear that he was not focussing on Sunday’s League Cup final at this stage, with tomorrow night’s game his priority.
“It’s pretty easy. Life makes the rules, if you think about the second step before you make the first step you will always fall down,” he said.
“If you think, for example, ‘leave this player out’ he will for sure be injured in the next session.
“We have to focus on this one then move onto the next one.
Personally I’m very pleased to hear Klopp want to play a strong side tomorrow night despite Liverpool’s biggest game of the season being played only a few days later.
Fitness and fatigue shouldn’t come into it, these players are professionals and have had a full week off and tiredness shouldn’t come into when playing such high profile games.
Klopp is also hoping for “rhythm” in his team’s performances and by naming a regular eleven players should help his team find that.
Many people might want Sturridge saved for Sunday, but this is a player that could get injured getting out of bed in the morning, so he is best to use him while he is fit, and maybe he could start him tomorrow and get the job done early and then take him off with Sunday in mind.
Sturridge also needs minutes on the park to improve his match fitness as he works his way back to full fitness and I think Klopp is right to use him.
It is a big week for Liverpool, and it looks like Klopp going for everything.
