Liverpool are considering £1m deal for League Two winger

Liverpool, Manchester United and Spurs have been scouting Oxford United winger Calum O’Dowda, reports the Star.

His club have climbed to second in League Two, partly thanks to his seven goals and seven assists this term from the right wing.

O’Dowda plays for Ireland Under-21s and was a big January target for Birmingham, although the Championship side were not prepared to pay his £10k-per-week wages.

That obviously wouldn’t be an issue for a Premier League club such as Liverpool or Spurs, who beat us to Dele Alli last summer from League One outfit MK Dons.

Alli’s now an England starter in what’s looking like one of our worst transfer mistakes in recent years.

For us though, this O’Dowda deal doesn’t sound particularly exciting. We recalled talented winger Ryan Kent from his League One loan spell, and he was racking up similar numbers to O’Dowda earlier in the season. Still, Kent can’t get anywhere near the team, and a loan spell could again be more beneficial for him next term. We’ve also got Sheyi Ojo at the club and Sergi Canos already on loan, not to mention Jordon Ibe – who’s the same age as O’Dowda.
