LFC compared to this ‘chinny’ boxer by Joey Barton

Outspoken former footballer turned pundit Joey Barton has slammed Liverpool, comparing us to boxer Amir Khan.

The former Olympic silver medalist is very, very talented and has an amazing skill-set, but is vulnerable defensively and has been knocked out cold three times.

Liverpool dominated possession and the chance count against Newcastle yesterday, but were undone by a straight ball through to Joselu that carved our centre-backs apart.

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Barton said: “They are so chinny, to use a boxing analogy. They throw a great array of punches, they are lovely going forward, but they remind me of Amir Khan. They are vulnerable to just getting knocked out.”

Barton speaks a lot of rubbish, but this isn’t entirely unfair analysis.

We do lots of good work but then throw it away by conceding unbelievably sloppy goals.

It’s driving both Jurgen Klopp and the fans up the wall, but while supporters wanted to buy new defenders in the summer in an attempt to rectify the situation, Klopp refused.

As a result, we’ve got two kids fighting it out for the right-back spot with Nathaniel Clyne out; Lovren playing through injury to partner Matip and Alberto Moreno at left-back.

That’s before mentioning the consistently rotating goalkeepers.

It’s not title wining material.
