Carra gives his verdict on the one selection dilemma Klopp has ahead of CL final

Jamie Carragher says Jurgen Klopp should pick Gini Wijnaldum over James Milner in the Champions League final, because of the incredible season the Dutchman has had.

With Roberto Firmino back fit again for the game in Madrid, the only real selection dilemma is a straight choice between the pair of midfielders, with the other 10 places in the starting XI fairly certain.

There is the argument that Wijnaldum performed so well off the bench against Barcelona in the semi-final that it should be his role again, but Carragher disagrees with that theory.

He told the Anfield Wrap“I think James Milner misses out, unfortunately. I love him, he’s been a brilliant signing since he came, plays in different positions at different times, does a brilliant job in midfield as well.

“I just think the fact with Wijnaldum, the whole season, would probably edge being our best midfielder. I think it will be Henderson to the right, Fabinho and Wijnaldum.”

It’s hard to argue with that. Milner would feel aggrieved, understandably, to miss out, but he could be the first substitute to come onto the pitch, hopefully to help hold onto a lead.

Whoever Klopp goes with, the midfield could be the area of the pitch where the game is won and lost. The Reds have won that battle twice this season against Spurs already, but making a third time in a row is the only thing that matters now.
