Trent Alexander-Arnold is world’s most valuable defender at €130.2m

A new report from the football think-tank CIES has named its 100 most potentially expensive footballers on the planet in terms of market value.

Their values are based on multiple factors, such as ‘age, contract, position, minutes, goals, international status, team results, etc’.

Right now, Kylian Mbappe is the world’s most valuable player, likely due to his age and limitless potential – with CIES suggesting his worth as €252m.

Mo Salah is next, however, at €219.6m – ahead of Raheem Sterling in 3rd and Lionel Messi in 4th!

Most interestingly though is that Trent Alexander-Arnold is the world’s most valuable defender at €130.2m, and the planet’s 13th most valuable footballer in total – one place ahead of Coutinho!

The second most expensive defender on the list is Virgil van Dijk, 24th overall, with Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte next.

Trent’s numbers are very dependant on his age, which massively increases his value considering he as at least a decade left at the top of the game.

But the fact Liverpool’s defenders fill two of the top spots, with Salah the second most valuable player and Sadio Mane at 6, with Roberto Firmino at 8 – proves the incredibly strong position we’re in right now.

The team is literally loaded to the brink with superstars.
