Senior Liverpool player reportedly wants to leave the club this summer

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is reportedly itching to leave the club this summer in search of more regular first team football opportunities.

The Belgian has always been a professional on and off the pitch, and featured for the Reds in their first pre-season outing, but it now seems he’s ready to call time on his Liverpool career.

That’s according to the Evening Standard who say that sources close to the goalkeeper has confirmed that the 31-year-old is angling for a move away.

The same report states that Crystal Palace are willing to offer close to what Liverpool would accept for the experienced goalkeeper.

Opinion

If Mignolet wants to leave the club then I hope we don’t stand in his way because he’s always been a professional on and off the pitch for us.

But we will struggle to find another player of his quality, for around £10million, that is happy to sit on the bench and occasionally step in for Alisson.

If we can convince the Belgian that he will play more often this season (with better runs in the FA and League Cups) then he may be willing to stick around a bit longer.

At 31, Mignolet will be wary that his best years are quickly running out, and spending another season warming up the bench probably isn’t in his best interests.
