Klopp issues new left-back transfer update in refusal to rule anything out

Speaking after the Bradford pre-season game, Jürgen Klopp has suggested that the Reds will keep their options open regarding the recruitment of a left-back to deputise for Andy Robertson.

With Alberto Moreno departing for Villareal, Robertson represents the only senior left-back available to Klopp at this current juncture.

That said, the likes of Yasser Larouci and Adam Lewis are both attempting to make the most of opportunities afforded to them in this year’s pre-season.

On the topic of left-back options, Klopp said this in his post-match comments: “We will see. What can I say? I said already, we have to think about everything and in the end maybe we do nothing, but we will see.

“Of course, as you can imagine, we will have a look at all the things around us. Of course we have lost a left-back and today you saw two pretty young ones, James [Milner] has played it and all that stuff.

“As I said, we will see.”

While Joe Gomez, and of course, James Milner, have both been stationed in the position in the past, it seems likely that Klopp will look for specialised cover at left-back.

Teenagers Lewis and Larouci have both caught the eye – the latter perhaps more so than the former – but further development at the Academy may be required, which may yet force Klopp’s hand in the procurement of a new, first-team left-back.

Whether the back-up policy will come in the form of youth promotion or money spent in the market is a question that will have to wait to be answered.

As the boss says, we’ll have to wait and see.
