Harvey Elliott played for Liverpool U21s in an unfortunate 3-2 defeat to Oldham in the Football League Trophy last night, but by all accounts, was one of the best performers on either side, despite being just 16-years-old.
The wonderkid scored a goal to make it 2-2 and was subbed off late on, only to see his young team-mates fall to a later winner from the League Two outfit.
Liverpool’s team was full of our prodigies, including Ki-Jana Hoever, Sepp van den Berg and Bobby Duncan – but in the end – experience and physicality won out.
It’s a shame our U21s lost, as we’d have liked to see them against proper professional teams on more than one occasion this term.
Still, Elliott’s outing was promising – and will do him plenty of good. Now, we hope to see him at least make the bench in our EFL Cup fixture, which will take place in a few weeks.
At Oldham with @johngibbonsblog and @jsexton24… can confirm Harvey Elliott is the business

Liverpool sub
Harvey Elliott replaced by Jack Bearne.
Lots of promise from the 16-year-old, a well-taken goal and looks classy in just about all that he does.
Still 2-2. #LFC

Jack Bearne on for Harvey Elliott for the last 25 minutes. Great for Elliott to get his goal tonight. Decent performance all round from the winger. Expect him to play for the U23s against Spurs at the weekend . #LFC
