Dejan Lovren may still make a move this summer, but on loan – report

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is reportedly moving closer to a transfer to Serie A giants Roma as the window edges closer to be slammed shut around Europe.

That’s what Corriere dello Sport are saying anyway. They claim Roma are interested in prising him away from Anfield and that he has emerged as their top target.

With Joe Gomez’s performance against Norwich, and Joel Matip’s against Manchester City in the Community Shield, it’s safe to say that the Croatian is firmly fourth choice.

He may yet make a move like Simon Mignolet and seek more playing time elsewhere. That being said, Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to want to part with a senior player so late in the window.

Given more time, the German boss may have been able to bring in someone – perhaps former Red Martin Skrtel who has just signed for Atalanta.

The same report claims that Liverpool and Roma are close to agreement; with a figure of around £15million being thrown around. Interestingly, CdS also claim the transfer would begin life as a one-year loan deal.

While the possibility of Lovren moving the Italian capital sounds quite likely, the timing is all off – there is almost no way we’d let a senior player leave the club now.

If the report is to be believed, then I’d expect something to happen in January.
