Liverpool set to benefit financially from Coutinho’s move to Bayern

Former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho is set to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on an initial one-year loan deal, and the Reds will benefit from it.

According to Sport, Liverpool will receive the entire £18million fee to be paid to Barcelona as the Catalan club are still yet to pay Coutinho’s £142million transfer fee in full.

The initial deal, struck last year, reportedly included a number of clauses which are set to be activated by his premature departure from the Camp Nou.

Bayern will cover his wages for the upcoming season, and will have an option to secure him on a permanent deal for around £110million next summer, as per the same report.

Reports in Italy suggested that Liverpool were interested in bringing the Brazilian back to Anfield, and offered to take him for two seasons on loan.

That was according to an exclusive report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, but it turned out to be wide of the mark.

We know that Phil would have jumped, with both feet, at the chance of returning to Liverpool. When he left for Barcelona, he could have walked into any team in the world.

A little over 18 months later, and he’s in danger of becoming another James Rodriguez – his own club doesn’t want him, but he’s too expensive for anyone else to buy.

Let’s see how he does in Germany.
