Seven Liverpool players make FIFPro XI shortlist

Posted by

FIFA have named the 55 candidates for the FIFA World Team of the Year.

It features seven Liverpool players, following our Champions League victory in 2018/19, that captured the imagination of the footballing world – most notably in our 4-0 victory over Barcelona at Anfield.

The Reds that made the cut are: Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

Captain Jordan Henderson misses out, as does Gini Wijnaldum and Joel Matip, which we especially think is harsh on the Cameroonian considering his utter brilliance this calendar year. Sergio Ramos boringly makes the shortlist and he’s been nothing short of awful for Real Madrid, for example.

We reckon Alisson and van Dijk are shoe-ins for the FIFPro XI, while Trent will surely get the call-up at right-back. Robbo is a less glamorous name than Marcelo or Jordi Alba, but he’s undeniably been better.

Up top, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo automatically get selected, meaning there’s only one spot left for one of our front-three.

Salah would be the most likely, although all three are equally as deserving.
