Henderson identifies Reds’ problem against Napoli; fans will agree

Skipper Jordan Henderson admits Liverpool were lacking the ‘final bit’ as they wound up losing to Napoli.

The Reds performed significantly better than they had in this fixture last season but uncharacteristically sloppy performances from the front three were (partly) what cost them.

In particular, Sadio Mane was guilty of fluffing his lines at a key moment, overhitting a fairly simple square ball to Mohamed Salah at the end of a counter.

For the most part, we were good in two thirds of the pitch, although our defensive concentration ultimately waned.

“I felt we played some good stuff, it was just the final bit I felt we were missing today,” Henderson told BT Sport, as quoted by liverpoolfc.com.

“At home Napoli are a good side and they are going to create some good chances.

“You’ve got to be prepared to defend as a team, which I felt we did.

“We won some great balls in midfield and counter-attacked really well, but it was just that last little bit – and obviously the mistakes for the goals – that we need to improve on.”

Perhaps Henderson’s final remarks encapsulate the eventual reaction of most supporters.

“Overall, we can be better of course. We’ll take responsibility, we’ll move forward and try to react in the right way.”

The result was more a frustration than it is a setback.
