Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has waxed lyrical about Jurgen Klopp.
The Argentine was speaking to Spanish outlet El Larguero, and was certain when asked to praise a rival European manager.
“A manager that I respect? Jürgen Klopp without a doubt. He had to lose things, as well as winning some beautiful things, but he’s always done it with one style. I see him really close to his players,” he said.
Simeone similarly has a brilliant relationship with his players who leave everything on the field for him, as do Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.
Like Klopp, he’s had to battle domestic clubs with bigger budgets – but has done so with aplomb…
One difference though is that Simeone’s best teams have been based around an incredible defence and a solid, narrow midfield – whereas Klopp manages to play a beautiful game that utilises both pressing and passing.
Liverpool are going for the Premier League this term and Atletico are genuine La Liga contenders, with Real Madrid and Barcelona not at their best.
Perhaps we’ll meet Simeone in the later stages of the Champions League, but for now, we’ll enjoy his Rojiblancos from afar!
