LFC U23 boss Neil Critchley to take charge of Carabao Cup quarter-final – report

Liverpool Under 23 coach Neil Critchley is set to relieve Jurgen Klopp of his duties as the Reds take on Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup quarter final.

In an unprecedented move, Liverpool are forced to play two matches, with two different squads, in two different continents within a 24 hour period.

The Reds were coping to get the League Cup fixture moved to another date, but it’s now been decided that this will not be the case and the Club World Cup will clash with our domestic calendar.

As per the Daily Mail, Klopp has not yet decided if he will miss the quarter-final against Villa, but logistically speaking, he’s meant to be in Qatar when we kick off at Villa Park.

Assistant boss Pep Lijnders is also a possible stand in for the German against the Birmingham based club, but Klopp is unlikely to want to be without him in Doha.

U23 coach Critchley would be next in line for the boss to select as his replacement, as per the Daily Mail – and not to mention a fair few of his players are likely to start the game with the senior team more likely to travel to Qatar.

It could be some opportunity for the young stars as fringe players such as Divock Origi and Ada Lallana are more likely to also travel to Qatar.

It’ll be a big challenge for the Reds team that faces Villa!
