The Curse of Michael Owen

Posted by

Fellow Reds, yes we are all ticked off over what Michael Owen did but here are some FACTS that should bring a smile to any Red.

  • Liverpool won the Champions League right after Michael Owen left.
  • Real Madrid have never been the same since they had signed Michael Owen.
  • England had been plagued by injuries and heartbreaking defeats everytime he was in the squad.
  • Newcastle got relegated with Owen in the squad.

Manure are now the next club to enjoy the voodoo services, I think Fergie himself knows this because he did not even appear for Owen’s signing.

I also fear for humanity, If I am not mistaken, Owen is the first player since Ted Savage back in the 1937/38 season to play for Liverpool then Manure after, WW2 started the year after this transfer.

  1. For all you smirking Scousers, here’s what your former idol thinks!

Rush: Owen will be a United star

Former Liverpool striker Ian Rush has backed Manchester United new boy Michael Owen to be a goalscoring success at Old Trafford.

Owen completed a surprise switch to the champions on Friday just two days after he became a free agent when his contract at Newcastle expired.

Injuries have ruined recent seasons for Owen and the England striker made just 71 league appearances for the Magpies since his move from Real Madrid in 2005.

However, Rush believes the move gives Owen an opportunity to return to form in front of goal after scoring just 30 times in all competitions in the north-east.
Rush told Sky Sports News: “It’s a chance for Michael to get back and score some goals. He’ll get chances for Manchester United and will score goals.”

The Wales forward has no doubts Owen can prove his class with the Premier League champions.
He added: “People have knocked Michael Owen all his career but he comes back bigger and better.

“People said he was finished years ago but he’s a fantastic player who comes back stronger and better.
“It (the talk) won’t worry him, I know the way he is and he doesn’t have to prove anything anyway.”

Former Liverpool favourite Rush – who scored more than 220 goals for the club in two spells either side of an ill-fated stint in Italy with Juventus – believes Owen would make a good impression were he to return to Anfield.

However, the 47-year-old, who made 73 appearances for Wales added:
“Personally, I’d like to have seen him at Liverpool but they haven’t lost their best strikers. He (manager Rafael Benitez) will be happy with what he’s got.”
Former Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear has backed Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to get the best out of Owen.

Kinnear rarely had a fit Owen at his disposal at St James’ Park but said: “He’s right up there with the best of them.
“I like to think I played with one of the best strikers in the world in Jimmy Greaves and Michael has similar attributes.
“He’s a great pro, he’s very dedicated, he’s a really nice lad and I’m sure Alex will get the best out of him.”

  2. I would love to be able to edit my previous comment but I cannot find a way to do so therefore I have no choice but to add another one.

You are clutching at straws Antoine, talking about voodoo services is childish to the extreme. Nobody at Old Trafford is expecting miracles from Owen but what has Sir Alex got to lose?

On the other hand the move may prove to be a masterstroke for the cunning Scottish fox!

Neither you nor I can predict what the outcome will prove to be, May 2010 will provide the answer.

  3. Well chaps, his name is Michael Omen to me at the moment, and I simply would have to say, best of luck to Manure! What is left of that $80m can go a long way on medical bills and horse saddles.

  4. hey Sir Fergulicious, greatest manager my @$$, you replace ronny puppet and tevez with owen and 6 goal wigan winger valencia. you’ve gone off the deep end. we already got his best years. hahahahahaha

  5. Frank mate. During the season a mate of mine who is a man utd fan could not believe how bad Owen was.He even mentioned the days when he was playing with liverpool and how good he was and now man utd have signed him, his a world beater in united fans eyes. Let me remind you of something Frank. If you think ferguson is gonna get the full 80 million from ronaldo sale, Id think twice. United club debt is nearly 1 billion. United barely covered the interest payment on the club loan last season. Expect the united club debt to rise even more this season. Be worried my friend if you dont win a trophy any season and be even more worried when ferguson retires. Nobody in their right mind will buy united thats for sure when the profit the club makes is barely covering interest payments. United fans are fickle. They welcomed ronaldo back with open ar,ms when he clearly stated he wanted to leave before last season on portugues tv, and this fickle mentality has blinded them from the finances. The glazers love united fans who just turn up to matches and pay the loan off for them lol.

  6. I’m not going to completely disagree with you maj because the same thought has crossed my mind. It’s not the first time that people like the Glazers issued a statement saying one thing in public while doing the exact opposite behind closed doors. You don’t know, I don’t know and the truth may not emerge until sometime in the future. On the other hand I ask myself why Ferguson made such determined efforts to get the likes of Ribery and Benzema if he was not allowed to spend all those millions on them? After all, he was not all that far off capturing at least one of them. As for Owen, how would Fergie have been better off without signing him for virtual peanuts? The chances of the move working out must be rated as minimal, does it really matter? If nothing else Owen may prove to be valuable in the development of some youngsters. One indication of Fergusons motivation will be whether or not he makes any further attempts to bring in a couple of high quality signings.

  7. Everybody is of track.
Owen is a pure merceinary piece of shit.Watch the dvd of istanbul you treacherous piece of shit.Icing on the cake rubbing liverpools nose in the ground
