Steven Gerrard was found not guilty of affray today. Stevie admitted to punching McGee (the so called businessman & DJ) and he (Stevie) did appologise for the incident. The CCTV footage released did show Stevie punching McGee and Stevie himself admitted to throwing the first punch after McGee Mithered Gerrard and he (Gerrard) acted in self defense as the guy was getting hostile.
Stevie is a human being, I am sure that he simply can not go anywhere without someone pestering him. Chants by Everton fans during a derby can explain this more “The babies aren’t yours!” they chanted and you can imagine what McGee said to him. Stevie’s mistake is that he is still down-to-earth and has not forgotten his roots, not a bad thing however I hope that he learns more from this and never leaves home without a couple of minders. The minders can do the dirty work on his behalf, McGee would have been taken care of by the minders if they were with him that night.
I am very happy this trail is over and that Stevie was found not guilty. I also like to praise the judge for the timing of the proceedings (imagine if this whole fiasco was in the middle of the season). Of course the tabloids were loving every minute of this and some Liverpool fans were getting nervous when they read headlines that suggest that Stevie might face 6 months in jail or comparing him to Joey Barton. Joey Barton give me a break? Isn’t it racial profiling when you compare someone just because he comes from the same neighbourhood or is of the same skin colour? The two things that Burton & Gerrard have in common are that they both play football (well Burton’s tries) and they both come from Huyton. Stevie & Joey are miles apart, Joey is a thug who is always getting in trouble with the law and his footballing skills have a lot to be desired. Stevie’s conduct has been exemplary (this is the only incident he has had with the law), he received an MBE from Her Majesty, he was awarded with Freedom of his own borough (being only the 5th person in history to get such an award) and on top of all this he is the best footballer in the world.
Now that it is all over, Stevie will be back to finish the pre-season preparations and lead the Reds to the Premiership summit.
Then we will crown you King Stevie.
You’ll Never Walk Alone, we all love you.
