Don’t blame Masc!

Posted by

Just had to make this post after seeing a few comments by fellow Liverpool fans.

Yes he should not be pulling shirts, but think about how got into that position! Yet again indecision or more likely inexperience was the cause. Insua should have just cleared it out or up the line, instead he tried a gentle nod down, straight a scum player!

That’s all I have too say, but will add to what I said during the week after Portsmouth, our off the ball movement is still dire and needs to be improved, otherwise we still underachieve.

  1. I have to agree… Insua was, and is, TOTALLY out of his depth… he couldn’t cope with their right winger at all!

  2. We all know who to blame here: the officials. It was a foul, yes, but it was outside box where the pull happened, not in.

Foul: yes. Yellow: Given the situation, yes. Penalty: NO.

  3. I really agree about the off-the-ball movement. that is just what lets us down ALWAY. ITs the key to unlocking teams and to put it very bluntly, it has been non existent in the recent past, though against pompey, I found some hope that it may change soon!

  4. Mascherano is not to blame, Valencia was clearing heading for goal. The yellow card did however influence the rest of his game as he had to be extra cautious.
We ALL know that ALL refs are influenced at Old Trafford, it’s no big secret, but the ref did not decide this game.
United play better than us this year and we came from two games in six days which had its effect.
Added to this is we went back to our old cautious approach and we were not very creative.
We can still make 4th spot, but other teams need to start doing us favours!!!!!!

  5. Every game Masch does something really stupid that puts us in a bad position. Should it have been a PK? Probably not. Is Masch the only reason it happened? No, because the ball got past at least 9 other players first. That being said we have a great goalkeeper and Masch didn’t give him a chance to do his job after being beaten himself.

I also replayed Park’s goal. Our defense was lazy and out of position. Reminds me of earlier in the year. MU outnumbered us just outside the 6 by 3 to 2. Johnson instead of marking goalside was trailing Park and not even between him and the ball. Don’t remember who was on the backside but if Park missed MU had another player wide open. Where the heck was the midfield.

I know it is blasphemy but Torres had 2 or 3 excellent chances to score. He failed. To lay anything on Yossi for no heading the ball in is crazy. The ball was spinning, had no velocity to work with and Van de Saar was there to stop him.

Lastly I lay some blame on Rafa. The team was aggressive and attacking in the first half. I don’t know if they were tired or if they were just not focused but the second half we played on our heels. If it was the former, waiting until 72 minutes to bring on subs was his fault. If not focused it still is his fault. That is the job of the manager. What happened in the locker room? They should have been fired up that it was 1-1 and only by a bad call did MU score. We had them on the ropes! We let them off. Shame on Rafa.

Other than the Europa League this season is a writeoff. I don’t see 4th place in the cards now. This was a must win. We failed. I hope I am wrong and I will admit as much if we do finish 4th.

  6. To be honest, I wasn’t shocked by today’s result. Even when we scored first, that confirmed what I had been feeling that we were in for a loss. So I don’t blame Mascherano, Insua or any of the players in the team.

Saying that, I do think Torres should have been prepared for Vidic and Ferdinand’s game plan, which was to irritate him. They succeeded. I spent most of the game thinking Nando was going to get sent off for his constant whingeing at the ref.

Going forward, the passion that I saw from some of the players needs to be shown in the remaining games of the season if we are going to have any chance of taking the fourth spot.

  7. Spot on Brent. There is plenty of blame to go around. Masch does get a free ride but if you study his game it is filled with holes. Positional aweness and passing being big issues that I have with him. That being said Insua has to shoulder the blame of giving the ball away. While I still back rafa as manager I didn’t agree with dropping babel for maxi, not sure I would of played aquilani but I could of gone either way with that one.

  8. Insua, not good enuff period. Need a left back as much as a striker in summer.
Masch, not in the Kaisers league! Good player but too many mistakes in big games ( OT twice now, Chavs in sept and Arsenal 4-4 last yr to name but a few!!)
Rafa, bad man-management and motivation. Torres and Gerro are so fed up we’ll be lucky to hold onto them in summer…
    4th – VERY doubtful
Tom and George, would be the waste of a good bullet!!
When are we ever gonna waken up and smell the coffee
    NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. It is by only divine intervention Liverpool can qualify for the 4th spot..i have predicted this before and i can see it happening we all remembered last year when we were pushing hard for the title and we almost got there but eventually we couldnt after we drew some games we shouldnt have this season reverse is the case we are chasing 4th spot as we are cashing our dear lives where we shouldnt have..we can only try but beleive me you all i doubt we are going to claim it,so many things have gone wrong since the beginning of the season ranging from poor decision by Rafa in terms of replacing Alonso with an injury prone player who last played in March and we bought him towards to closing of the transfer window even anytime he gets fit he cant play two games or three games on a run otherwise he would suffer either virus or stomach bug i cant rage on i m only disappointed..The owners are doing their’s and Rafa is doing his it just seem to me the club is ravaged by both on field and off field drama’s..the owners are stubborn and Rafa is over cautious and stubborn minded as well….we liverpool supporters deserves better

  10. Don’t blame anyone, is just the team mentality down after the penalty, yes it shouldn’t be a penalty, but the team should accept it and start to play the game again.

The team fight hard against 12 person, 1-2 is not what i hope for. if we fight 11 person we should’ve won more than 3 goals.

  11. Why should we not blame Masch? Fair enough he may have been trying to clean up a team mate’s mess, but surely if he is going to commit the foul he should have made sure that he took Valencia down well before the box ever came into play.

Personally once Man U scored that was that for us. Our heads dropped and our so called ‘STAR’ names went missing, which was very disappointing. I reckon that’s fourth place all but lost and there is not a lot we can do about that.

The summer can’t come quick enough and I fully expect there to be big changes at the club – owners, manager and players will all be under the microscope and I just hope we come out the other end a stronger club.

  12. Masch was silly, it clearly shown he was pulling him but then it was out the box etc we can all argue the toss but it went as a penalty. But can I ask why on gods green earth was it only Carra who was trying to talk to Masch afterwards, again Stevies responsibilties, and there was numerous times, Torres kicking the penalty spot, Gerrard didn’t have a word, he got booked, he didn’t have a word, and they all lost their fire. Masch had to calm his game down on his own, the captain should have been backing him up. It’s really dissapointing to see a captain not look like he cares about his team mates, we all know he does, but would be really nice to see it once in a while.

Yes unfortunalty we lost, it wasn’t a great game, but the form Man U have been in it could have been alot worse. We kept it tight for a lot of the game, yes there are holes still but it is improving (i hope)

I do have to say that Insua really isn’t good enough, you can say he’s young etc but if thats the case he shouldn’t be playing, him and Johnson both have the turning circle of a bus and it lets them down no end, especially against players like Valencia, looking forward to Aurelio’s return. And would like to see Kelly get a bit more time for the rest of the year.

  13. Im gutted after the result but i agree that Mascherano cant be blamed for “trying” to get the tackle in. I do think that the scum waited for the box before he went down. All in all it was a poor result, Rafa bought on Aquilani to change the game and it took him like 5 minutes before he got his first touch.
