Could this be a Blessing in disguise??

Yeah, a consecutive draw, this time with Fulham at home, one of the fixtures 99% of us would have ticked off as a comfortable 3 pointer. We can safely conclude that we’ll be playing in the Europa League next season, and I like most fans am terribly gutted about this. We’re the most prestigious club in Britain and it is a fall from grace after the way we have performed in Champions league in the past 5-6 years destroying the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter, Juvenyus, and of course Chelsea and Arsenal in mammoth European ties. Also, experts have expressed how the club could suffer financially with the loss of UCL action with questions being raised as to whether Liverpool can bounce back from this setback.

However, we are at a unique position right now with 2 American lunatics running the club. After wreaking major havoc with the club’s finances since they arrived in 2007, they are finally getting cornered by the banks and lenders from whom they borrowed money for the take over, and a buy out in the near future is a concrete possibility, with the rumblings about a deal with Barclays gaining momentum which will see the Americans leave the club once and for all, with Barclays given the job of finding interested parties.

So the good thing I’m looking at from our exclusion from the Champions league next year is that it will act as a catalyst to removing the americans from the club. H&G will HAVE to lower the clubs currently inflated value due to the absence of champions league football. I doubt the value will fall very substantially, but Im sure the yanks won’t have the audacity to hold out for the the likes of £550 or £600 million and milk money out of this club which they have so openly abused. This will also help spur on potential investors to table bids, buy the club and dump the undesirables back across the Atlantic.

Also the fact that we won’t be playing champions league football next season MAY also help us in another way. It will ensure that only genuine parties who have a longterm vision and the club’s interests at heart will buy the club as right now, Liverpool FC is not good place to invest with a short term goal as it might have been when H&G took over. So there is more chance of us being in safer hands than had we been in the Champions league this season.

I may be optimistic, but all is not lost by ANY means, we might be missing out on the glamour of the champions league for a season, but lets make no bones about it, this could be a blessing in disguise for Liverpool as it might benefit us on multiple fronts. 2010-11 will see us concentrate more, and thus have a better chance of succeeding in the Premiership, see the club placed in safer hands and ensure a better tomorrow.

  1. great read, i want to be optimistic, but it’s hard to be that when the owners are businessmen and see our club as an enterprise, abramovich loves chelski, he loses millions but he doesn’t care, he wants chelski to improve.

our owners on the other hand are only here on an economical perspective, and that is to drain the money out of our beautiful club.

but we must stay optimistic, because that (may sound a little dramatic) is the only thing we’ve got.

  2. Not so sure whether this is or isnt a blessing. I agree with the idea, but if we do suddenly get a cash injection then the players we might be after (lets pretend we could afford David Villa for example) will all want CL football next season and we’ll be competing for names who are also being approached by teams who are in the CL…

Anything has to be an improvement over this season though.
