POLL : Who do you blame for Liverpool’s poor season start?

Posted by

I created the following opinion poll to gauge what people are thinking but believe it or not I have seen all of these posted on boards, Facebook, Twitter and other websites in the last couple of weeks.

  1. Has to be Roy, I’m afraid. Although we have had a bit of a bad luck lately and players are performing badly, it’s Hodgson’s job to get the best out of a pretty awful situation and so far he has failed to do so. A fundamental re-think on the lineup with a potential change in formation is needed to revitalise the side.

  2. Easy to point the blame at Roy Hodgson, and he certainly has to take a share of the responsibility, but the real issue is the same as previous seasons – the owners. If we didn’t have Hicks and Gillett we wouldn’t have Roy Hodgson as manager, and we wouldn’t have the likes of Brad Jones, Poulson and Konchesky at the club.

  3. its the yankwanks that are screwing us up, so much uncertainty, its not Roy’s fault, he has to settle down a bunch of professionals footballers who’s future and who’s hearts are fully involved in a club they love (El Nino, Carra and Capt Fantastic especially). But seeing whats going on its bound to hurt the players, interfere with thinking on the field, new manager trying to get the balance right. we have some sh*t hot players that need to blend in. If we cant keep Kuyt (awesome),or God forbid, have to sell El Nino cos of these two tossers we have to go back to scratch and can any fan contemplate relegation? but it is a possibility the longer this situation goes on. in 50 years of watching the Reds I have never seen a situation so bad and its all because of outside influences.

  4. No matter what happen in G&H take over saga, Mr Roy had a squad with excellent player! So its his fault if he cant cope and crack when things get heated up! In my 15 years supporting liverpool, yesterday is the first time i felt sad and ashamed for my beloved team….. YNWA!!!

  5. I believe it’s Roy Hodgson’s fault… He does not have a good strategy although he has so many great players to work with. I want him to get out a.s.a.p

  6. Don’t see how you can blame Hodgeson after only 6 games. The blames lies firmly on 4 people. Moores for being greedy, Parry for not giving a stuff apart from himself, Hicks and Gillette for being bastards who have lied to us from day 1.

  7. The overall problem is the owners, but IMHO Roy just doesn’t inspire me or come across as someone who has passion for the club. He doesn’t seem to have a plan and is lost on making a change in the game to fresh it up…. Come end of the year, I think we will (hopefully. praying to god) have new owners, new board (except commercial director) and more likely a new manager. But don’t get me wrong, I will support the manager whilst at the club, but as I said above, I wasn’t inspired when we got him.

  8. I think it has to be Roy.

H&G, Purslow and Broughton can be blamed for the state of the club off the pitch, but on the pitch Roy is to blame.

Roy was supposed to be excellent in the transfer market, but was unable to really increase our squad depth. Konchesky is not a player of the calibre LFC need.

The team is playing worse than with Rafa, and he lost his job for it.

I want to believe in Roy, but after the initial joy of Jovanovic (Rafa’s signing) and Joe Cole, then Gerrard and Torres staying my belief in him has gone down.

The final straw was seeing how well Rafa van der Vaart is performing. Roy turned down the chance to sign him because he said he didn’t need him and there was already players who play his position. Anyone who turns down the chance to sign a player as good as vd Vaart for cheap is clearly not good in the transfer market.

  9. Hodgson. Everything is wrong about him so far. Clearly Poulsen hasnt settled – or will never settle – we have Lucas who was one of our better players last season, and captain during pre-season who can do a much better job disturbing play in the middle, not just settling. Meireles is not a wide man – yes he wants to change formation, but you do that in pre-season – or when you have breaks like this – and experiment in the cup games with the new formation. Playing 4-4-2 against City started it all.

Why is Jovanovic on the bench? he the only left footed player that’s fit. Jova/Cole wide left – Kuyt wide right. Gerrard behind Torres since he always amongst top scorers and ROY didn’t buy a striker. When he came in there were two main priorities – no – one since we had Insua even – A top striker. Poulsen – not necessary, Meireles – not necessaty- we had Aquaman (who i watched yesterday play against Rafa in Juve v Inter – quality player). Where’s Babel?? Pacheco??
Its not rocket science – Carra cannot play fullback nomore – the legs are gone. Kelly was fit yesterday and hasnt done much wrong.

Its Roy – his tactics are WRONG! He picks the wrong team.

  10. well i seen the game yesterday and from the very 1st blackpool attack i knew we would lose. zero confidence in the team no team spirit no heart no character no passion we r in a serious situation and getting out of this is goin to be difficult. anfield was so quiet yesterday and not 1 player had his name chanted or sung yesterday thats a 1st. the blame is a collective blame clearly hodgson is out of his depth we have blood sucking leaches as owners who dont give a toss bout us the fans and the club. rick parry is to blame he was asked to find a buyer 2 to buy us 1 the d.i.c 2 the yanks parry chose the yanks coz he never did his homework. and now we could be going the way of leeds and newcastle makes my heart bleed.

  11. I think this has Roy’s name written all over it for sure! It might be partly some of the players faults, but the manager is the one who sets the formation, game plan and tells them what they should do. BRING KING KENNY BACK!!!

And heres another cause; F*cken get rid of Johnson! What a waste of 18m for a player who is only worth 10 to 12m. I don’t give a flying f*ck if he’s english but he seems to want to play in the mid, then as a defender!

  12. As much as I hate the yanks and agree things will get worse under them, we have to acknowledge the fact that the first team squad is full of internationals and should be good enough to beat the likes of Birmingham, Blackpool and Northampton.

Yes the players must accept blame but we cant get rid of all of them and it is not that the likes of Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Carra, Gerrard, Cole, Raul Merelies, Torres, Kuyt etc are not good players … they have all had spells in their careers of looking like top notch players. I can only conclude that the manager is using the wrong tactics and is failing to lift the players from their gloom.

Sorry Roy but I am pointing the finger at you!

  13. what?antoine for tweeting?haha can’t see the what’s the connection with our bad results.but i blame hicks&gillet.they surely affecting the player’s morale.even torres said earlier that we must have a new owner, and i think with all this ownership uncertainty really affect our performance.we no longer can compete in the transfer market, and we have to sell players before we can buy a new one.and that’s not how you run a big club like liverpool.if we keep doing like that we won’t have a good squad depth and that’s a big problem

  14. Poll should be multiple choice really. Hicks and Gillett are most to blame for, but so are Broughton and Purslow, as well as tactics and selections of Roy, and moreover the players are letting us down. And yeah your tweeting seems to be one the reasons too ;)

  15. the players definitely. we have been out hustled and out worked by every other team. no energy, poor positioning on the field and just a general lack of desire to chase it seems from everybody.

i played team sports and while i understand the frustrations of the players, they have only themselves to blame for the lack of work ethic. hustle and energy wins games. you close down your opponents, hassle them into making mistakes and out energized them to win.

wasn’t that liverpool of yesteryear? we used to bully opponents with pressure, even if the pressure led nowhere, we still persisted regardless. look at the blackpool game. we did it for 20 mins and then gave up when we kept missing and only got 1 goal from it.

this is the players’ fault. i think blackpool took a page out of our book and handed our rears to us.

  16. Can’t believe I’m actually writing this after so much promise goin into this season after last seasons disappointments…here goes, compare this,2 seasons ago,we finished second with prob one of the best SPINE’S of any team in football,by the word spine I mean quality running through vital areas of the pitch, reina carragher, alonso, masch, gerrard, torres, the rest of the bit part players could be shuffled, now fast forward, reina, carra (who is now past his best) poulsen(good god)lucas(not good enough) gerrard played behind torres which is his best pos,and a 60per cent fit an confident torres, only 4 of the 6 members of our SPINE,remain, and 2 of those guys carra an torres are either past it or not fit, roy, this on field disgrace is now your problem,we only need one destructive midfielder in the middle not 2,and start playin agger for gods sake man! Don’t get me started on hicks an gillete……
