We Didn’t See This With Rafa…

Current manager and the previous one, but who is to blame?

First of all, i’m not a man of facts and stats. But passion, common sense and dedication all come naturally to me. The loss in any match is heart breaking and can lead to alot of abuse from other teams and the media, a loss in a derby doubles that abbuse, especially the mersey side one. So why is it that when Reds all across the globe are either angry and venting to other reds, or in shock and feeling like we are bound for relugation, that Roy Hodgson had a quick smirk on his face at the final whistle?

I bring up Rafa, knowing this will stir many supporters up, but not with that sole intent in mind… Roy has asked for 10 matches to be judged, but even with the next two (if he is given them), I dont think my confidence in him will be changed. It’s been written in the past few weeks many times, but again, after the loss to Manchester United and having Ferguson accuse Torres of cheating, Roy didnt flinch and would rather keep his friendship with Fergie than stand up for his star man up-front and get passionate about his players. A draw and a loss in our previous two matches and Roy has found positives in the matches and is content. While we sink lower and lower.. the smile for me has shown me that Roy does not understand the importance of his position and the pressure that is on him constantly to deliver results and bring the supporters spirits up!

Many people do not like Rafa, and I have to agree that his last season was not a convincing one, but wouldn’t a manager who stands up to his opponents, supports every member of his team, and show the same passion and love for the club as the fans, have more support in a hard time? Maybe 7th was not acceptable for his level of managing, but is 19th much better?

People are telling me that where we lack in the premiership, we will shine in Europe. We nearly didnt make to Europe this season and its not looking good to even be in top flight in England at the moment! Rafa may not have been the best manager in the country, but looking at many stats, he was one of the best at liverpool. In 7 games at Inter Milan, he sits in 2nd place with 14 points. I think its not that he wasnt doing his job properly, the problem was Hicks and Gillett! We the fans never gave up and Rafa didnt either. He stood tall and wanted to show his commitment, and he got sacked in a “mutual agreement”. Rafa has come out and said liverpool is his home, and he follows the club very closely still, he says he wants to come back. Until he does, we do have other managers and staff members to pick from to replace Mr. Hodgson, but Rafa has what it takes to bring the best of our boys in red.

Currently, Antoine’s poll shows 91.45% (417 voters) of voters want Roy out while the other 8.55% (39 voters) say give him two more games. May be why #RoyOut is spreading quickly on Twitter.

In Roy’s deffence i must say, he is very confident with his interviews and does not bring pressure on himself or the team. He selects his words very carefully and with wisdom, can make any bad situation a little lesss painful. He has many years of experiance and has done very well with Fulham and some of his past clubs, but this job might be his limit. He has deffended himself saying in over 30 years of managing football teams, he has won many matches and his tactics have worked all along. But he may be stuck with certain ways of play that dont work, not every team is the same and liverpool isnt. We are better, and we need better players to complement who we have now, and a new manager to bring the best out of the athletes.

I respect Roy and do wish him to stay in top flight football until he decides he is done with football, but maybe not in liverpool, Hodgson, Benitez, O’Neil, and Danglish.. just four men who may have what it takes, but I think only two have earned their spot, one may have highest odds for the “replacement”and one has run his course..

  1. Can I just say I find it really funny that the writers on this site go from “we support you, ” and then when something goes wrong blames them? Look, today sucked. I live in the states and I’m glad that I decided to not wake up at 5 to watch this. But do you really think that having a new owner is going to make a huge difference in 48 hours? That isn’t reasonable. In a few months people will be calling him a “legend” and shit for saving our team when he is clear of the relegation zone.

If there was one thing Hicks was right about, Rafa didn’t buy good players. With the exception of Torres, Masch, and Benayoun no one has really impressed me much. And to be honest, given how Torres has a glass groin, I think getting rid of him in January and getting a new striker may be a blessing in disguise. I’d take a B+ striker who I know can go 90 minutes over someone as unreliable as Torres. Diego Forlan, perhaps? If you can inject money into Man City and have the stars swarm in, you can do it with Liverpool too. Also, I think that if Man City don’t break into the top four this season there will be some disappointed players itching to leave.

We need to get rid of Babel or let him play as a striker, his original role. This is another thing Rafa did wrong that Roy isn’t much better at: putting players in the wrong position. Keane hardly ever got to play striker, who knows what could have happened had Rafa played 2 up front?

  2. Couldn’t be said better!!! Let’s hope John W. Henry saw what we saw out of this match and will take the proper decisions ASAP.

  3. I cant believe Hodgson just told Sky Sports that Liverpool played good today but lost! Honestly, is he blind or plain dumb stupid???
I understand not slating your teams performance but to actually say that they played welk today is a joke, they played so poor its unreal!
Does he actually think saying that will smokescreen his teams boring, lackluste & gutless performance

  4. its time to cut and run..get shut of Roy…today i saw gerrard and the rest of our players not knowing what to do
to narrow no wingers..players in the wrong position
cole has looked like a fish out of water
    PLAY HIM NEXT TO TORRES
this is as bad as it gets

  5. Rog Hogson has issues and he’s inept, he should stop making excuses he shoud learn from Portmouth last season inspite of their woes. Roy please GO!

  6. Im sorry but no! Add the european games and cup game and hes had more than 10 games, new owners new manager, lets have a complete fresh start, you may say he needs time but to me from the first few games to now nothing has really improved.

  7. Pretty please help us not to be bottom after 10 matches.

Boys ‘the team’ have a look around we have new owners who look like they might actually help us. Every fan myself included is behind you, so pull up your socks and lets get on with it. Lets kick some ass and turn Anfield back into a fortress.

    The season starts tomorrow.

    Mark

  8. what next. A poll for john henry? Judge him when it’s woy hodgson’s 11 and not rafa’s
“We all dream of a team of Poulsens”

  9. Er…when it’s Hodgson’s 11, we will be relegated. A striker Roy would buy is Gera, Dempsey or Charlton Cole because better strikers won’t want to be near our relegation bound/form team. We suck and that’s a fact. For the love of LFC, stop this rot because Roy can’t and he is running out of ideas and saying stupid things like Hicks does in his interview.

  10. Really wanted to give hodgson a chance but he just seems to come up short and is lacking the passion that Rafa always showed Liverpool FC is in his blood and always will be! He may not be perfect but I would carry him back from Milan at the moment

  11. nope, Roy has to go. With his buys (Pouls, Konch, Jovan, Merei, Cole) and letting Aqua go he has got half his own team and we are definitely worse. Worse and it isn’t getting better

Another 5 wont matter. We need a manager. Bring back Rafa!

  12. Oh my gosh that second post is funny. You’re a die hard fan, you mate. Not only
are you not from Liverpool, you’re not from
England AND you didn’t even bother to set your alarm to watch a derby match! “today sucked” lmfao

  13. spot on brandon couldn’t of put it better myself, roy seems like a nice fella but that smile at the end………….well.i’d love rafa back always had my support

  14. I don’t see why people keep mentioning Babel as evidence of another failure this season when he has barely played with the first team, and on the rare occassions that he has, he has looked a lot more capable of impacting a game positively for us than the the players that are keeping him out of the team (Cole, Kuyt, Maxi & Jovanovich)

Irt Hodgson, he had the opportunity to change the team as he saw fit, but all he has done is take the club backwards. I don’t see why he deserves the opportunity to make any further changes to the squad given the evidence of his impact on the club so far.

  15. the difference – rafa benitez always said (like houllier) that we attacked more and gave us statistics (or facts shall i call them?) about how unlucky we were and NOW, TODAY, hodgson tells us that we played a great game!!! what positives did he see today? maxi and cole didn’t know what to do … ahhh coz the mister said that we play without wingers. how can be torres happy when he’s not provided with balls?? the turning point was … also i must say it was too late when sg and mereiles played central and we played offensive football. shall we wait for being 2-0 down to change the style? we r liverpool not fulham. we r there to win … that’s the wrong strategy … hodgson just plays not to lose!!! the statistics speak themselves 4 L 3 D 1 W … usually in liverpool fc it will b the other way round!

and please i don’t buy your opinions of hodgson inheriting a bad team. it’s not the best i know … but we have more quality than just being in the bottom part of the table.

hodgson is not suitable for liverpool fc i’m sorry. :(((

  16. Guys, so when we are still sitting in 19th in 2 weeks, you want to give Roy more time?? Today NINE of our first 11 was at the world cup. That tells you something. Many of these players finished second 18 months ago. The ‘its Rafa’s team’ argument is complete nonsense. If Roy wants to fill our team with Konchesky’s and Poulsen’s, that gives you an idea of where we would head.

The problems lie with the manager. His tactics have worked well with lesser teams. We currently, sit back and invite pressure on to us which should not be happening. We have no width. Torres is isolated and getting no service.

I don’t believe that Roy wants to change his tactics. Under Rafa we pressed teams high up the pitch. Everyone knew their role. Under Roy, we are sitting deep and letting teams play right at us.

It was pertinent today that Gerrard looked to Roy in the second half for instructions. Roy said nothing.

Time for a change……if people here want to give Roy more time then I’m sorry, it just is not going to work.

  17. we did see plenty of poor performances with Benitez last season though btw, and I’m sure that we’d see plenty more with O’Neill also.

As we can’t bring in a manager that guarantees success (a la Mourinho) I want a manager that is committed to good, attacking football week in-week out, rather than yet more defensive, counter-attacking football and hoping for the best

  18. Roy was stood up tellin the players what to do for 90 minutes an not one looked interested. Maxi, Lucas and Cole are well out there depth in the English league. They need to give Babel, Ngog an Jova a game, but as everyone is wanting Hodgson out already i dont get it. So we sack him we end up with O’neil? Hes done as much as Hodgson in his career, right?? Celtic was a team a donkey could win the SPL with.

  19. Being a Red, it is expected to support the manager. I admit I`m a Rafa fan and supported him to the very end, but at the same time I would admit that perhaps a break from his methods was the way forward at that time( though finishing 7th should not have been the reason for sacking rafa). After just 8 League games, it might seem a bit too harsh to call for Roy to be replaced, but The supporters cant be wrong, these are the supporters that carried Rafa`s banners for years, who always manage to maintain a deep bond with their managers and support them to the hilt. But just being made Liverpool manager does`nt entitle one to that, that right must be earned. Clearly, Hodgson, over last 4 months has failed to do that. Over the 8 league games, he has certainly failed. The Players he as brought, specifically Poulsen and Paul Konchesky have actually lowered the squad quality, Letting Aqualiani go on loan, just doesnt make sense, either use him or sell him, I`d rather have him playing in our first team , rather than the Juve. Joe cole, while a free transfer, still has little to show for the kind of wages he gets, he has been a hit and miss, a luxury player, whereas we need balance. Pushing SG into center midfield, wherein last few years he has excelled with FT, playing in the hole is akin to use a sword without its handle. Playing, FT as loneliest of the strikers is fuking with his mind, wont be surprised if he opts out.
Now that our Biggest nightmare is over, I think we need to address the manager situation, Jan would be too late, So far there is nuthing that shows that Roy will get it right. I`m sure he`s an honest bloke and speaks well. well lets keep him on as the team spokesman. He`s not in the same class as Rafa. NESV deserve a fresh start and so do we. LEts get someone intelligent and progressive, and steer clear of Fergie`s Old Boys club. I`m convinced that Roy simply doesnt have it. the only reason i`m pushing for it so early is that teh new guy shoudl get maximum time to salvage this position. Roys sasy there are 90 pts left to play for, well even going by slackest of competition, we need atleast 60 more, to get 67, which, jsut migth gets us fourth. Does anyone honestly think that Woy can win 20 of 30 games, I dont. and I`ve seen managers from mid eighties. For the good of the club, Roy Needs to go.

  20. i’m so sick, that i don’t know from where to start. we look lost, we can’t even deliver 3 consequence passes. and the first half we play with our back to Everton half. like they were scare to advance. Hodgson has no idea about what he si doing. He is a bad manager for Liverpool. he might be good for Fulham but no for Liverpool. we are a top side. then after the game he was laughing with Everton Manager???shaking his hand?I was diying inside and he was laughing?he took him 75 min to make substitution?when you are loosing 2-0!!!and then he went out and buy Poulsen and Kolsinky?and paying Joe Cole 90k a week??and he is garbage. every time he has the ball he turn his back to Torres instead of giving him the ball, looking for him. he is here to destroy our team. he has to go immediately.

  21. One thing I know for sure. If any of my kids will ever get the chance to play for the club I’ve supported all my life (which is Liverpool of course), then I’ll do everything I can to prevent it. If ever we had the most knowledgable fans in the world then those days are long gone. Well, some posters on here are more sensible, thankfully.

  22. @Tim Two Jova was Rafas buy another player inherited.

I dont see how everyone could want Rafa back when he clearly lost the dressin room the day he sold alonso. He sold Bellamy an Crouch an left us with one striker so until january i dont think any manager would of done any better regardless of who it was.

at least mereles looks worth his money an hes fit to play unlike aqulani.

  23. when you fire a manager you supposed to remove his staff as well, my view is that Sammy lee has picked up all Rafa’s bad habits, every time we go down a goal i see roy look hopeless and refer to sammy for help,if i remember sammy lee was sending bolton down when he took charge, 2 holding mids Gerrard behind Torres does bot work.

  24. @chris, A fit Aqualani is scoring for Juve? wat the hell is he doing there? are we so rich that we can afford to loan players like him? just does`nt make sense.
Roy is proving to be a typical mediocre English manager, no better than likes of redknapp and allardyce, Reds have been brought up on more luxury diet offering, Not even Souey had turned opinion so quickly against himself.

  25. im sorry but i have to say what i watched was unreal…..we dont have the time to give to roy, and sorry but it may be rafa`s team to a certain degree but we would of had more pionts from the games we have had with rafa than roy,,,,, my god, look at the players we are being linked with in january…. roy is a good man for mid table yes…. but not top 4 team…. we need a total change and changed now….. look at our match today and he has the balls to say its the best we have played all season, what game was he watching eh >????? that statment in its selfs tell me all i need to know about him and his vision…. sorry but no supporter can be happy with what was played today… nonew… look at gerrard when first sub was made… no direction from roy as to where gerrard was to play…. sorry roy……. times up…

  26. Lets not forget that we played some dreadfully boring football last season. I know we were plagued with injuries through much of the campaign and suffered from lack of confidence, but we were hardly playing like an inspired side. Given that though, I still would have given Rafa another season. You don’t sack a manager that came in second the season before, especially when we knew new owners would be coming to the table.

What to do with Roy now? As much as I don’t feel it is the Liverpool way to sack a manager after such a short run, I don’t feel he is the man for the job. I would have very little confidence having Roy going into the transfer window as well. Why on earth did we pick up so many center mids? Loaning Aquilani was one of the craziest things I could have thought of doing, and then buying Paulsen and Meireles… Come on. That kind of business doesn’t bring confidence in the manager. Meireles isn’t a bad player, but Aquilani is just as good or better. Paulsen… ugh, don’t get me started. And now we still have no width and insist on not playing our one player with a little pace, Babel. I’d even give Pacheco a run. It’s not like we can do any worse!

  27. Pheeno: I am from England, I live in the states. When you work 60 hours a week you’ll understand why getting up at 5 to watch a match isn’t an easy thing to do. I did it for every match against united for the last few years (if they were on early) and couldn’t be assed today. It’s easy to watch every game when you aren’t 8 time zones away, isn’t it? Don’t be a dick to a fellow fan because he didn’t watch a nap or because (you think) he is from a different country.

  28. You can’t expect to be judged as a manager when you only play your first eleven. This is beyond utopia. Rafa won the European Cup with almost an entire team of Houlier. He simply adapted the team to his ways. I can’t believe how badly Joe Cole played today. Every single time he touched the ball was a back pass or an early poor cross. Konchesky is so bad I don’t know where to start. Poulsen? Really?
Hodgson has no clue and got to go asap. Right now is damage limitation, because our season is screwed already. I would go for Quique-Flores from Atletico Madrid, but I’m not sure he’d go for us right now… Young, smart and experienced.

  29. @Raven When Aqulani went he had a problem in pre season, no team wpuld of bought him without seeing him fit. Unless your Rafa that is,

Yeh Poulsen was a bad buy but wasnt everyone saying that about most of Rafas buys?? E.g. Lucas, Riera, Babel, Nunez….. the list goes on. He upset every player that dared to test him, he was far to stubborn! Why did he try and replace Alonso with Barry in the first place? Barry cant use his right foot at all! The downfall started as soon as Alonso went an it was obvious to see last season that rafa had lost the dressing room. If people got behind the team an manager however frustrating it might be maybe ot would make a change? We now have the weight of debt an bad owners gone so surely the players can now look up an one team will feel the last 2 years of anger soon. Its clear to see that from spells in which they seem to play. We might see two up top next week because Ngog deserves a place next to torres any day of the week.

I support arsenal n wtached the game and thought we arsenal fan r spoilt n I kinda feel bad for u guys if we dnt win the title I would actuliy perfer u guy to win it but this team is jst rubbish n I knw ppl sy the players r benitez but look at wat Roy bought last summer polsen, mar somthing when ever i hear their name is like who are this player s n am tell u I follow football n know a lot about stoke singings than liverpool n this isn’t right wat am sying is his singing tells u everything he could hv sold lukas am sory but this player is embarsing to watch.
he is nottt prem player at all if I can see this forsure Roy should hv n am not Liverpool fan n pls u need to be back as I don’t wante tottenham or manc to finsh fourth

  31. I think people are talking rubbish sayin that hodgson needs his own 11, what happened when rafa turned up? what that his 11 or was it from houlier, I rest my case, hodgson has to go – he is not inspiring the players.

  32. Rafa’s 11 or not, Roy has still not produced a good performance in 8 league games. And a lot of that 11 are full internationals, and OK we finished 7th last season, but wouldn’t you kill for that right now? Striker situation…Not ideal but Babel, Kuyt and Pacheco can all give Nanado some help. Plus we bought Poulsen for 4mil and did not spend the 10 mil we had available for a striker. Hodgson knew we were light upfront. Why not put the Poulsen money in the kitty and make it 14 mil for a striker.I’m not saying Roy has to go now, but all those still blaming Rafa, Hodgson had time to fix this and Okish money to do it, but still bought in Konchesky, Poulsen, not spend all the money available and still loaned out Aqua. Either use him or sell him. We need the player or the money. He was so caught up in the fact that he had signed the genius Cole, he thought “I don’t need Aqua”. Well, this isn’t Fulham, we need a strong squad with options. Fawning over Cole doesn’t help…BTW Aqua scored a screamer for Juve! Oh and wasn’t one of Hodgson’s main qualities was getting the best out of what he is given?

  33. Er… No. But if you are writing a blog about Liverpool I think the writer should be able to spell the name of our greatest player.

  34. I have to agree with Paul, I don’t think the problem lies in the team but in the way it’s playing – and the manager must at the end of the day take responsibility for that.

Although I was not in favour of Roy coming in, we are talking about Liverpool FC here – a club that has typically taken the long-term view. In this case, I think Roy has to have his chance until Xmas. He may not be a manager of the calibre of Benitez, Mourinho or Ferguson, but he is a decent manager and should be able to turn the boat by then. If he does not, he will have had his chance, and I think the new owners will have no choice but to draw the appropriate consequences.

Chop-and-change is rarely a good policy, but by Xmas it should be more or less clear whether Roy can steady the ship. If he can, Henry & Co. should wait until the end of the season before making decisions for the longer term.

  35. And, by the way, for the longer term I would do everything possible to bring Rafa back. With the support of smart owners, which NESV seems to be, Rafa would be the perfect guy to take us back to the top; and, having failed during his first stint at the club, I do not have the slightest doubt that he is itching for another go at the EPL title.

  36. Totally agree with Paul. So it’s Rafa’s 11 not Hodgsons’? Didn’t Rafa win a certain cup With Houllier’s 11? And please not O’neill. He is good but not great. Villa spent money and he could’nt make 4th and twice he could not pass the group stages of the mickey mouse cup. I think it’s gotta be Dalglish till some truly world class manager is available.

  37. How the hell did Woy Hodgson get to manage LIVERPOOL???, the clueless morons who appointed him, should rectify their HUGE error, by SACKING him NOW!!!cause he will continue to load our great club with, mediocre english players, to go along with his clueless english management (Boring, Negative)philosophy!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. It is true Roy did say give me 10 games and then assess me. Well unless we pick up 6 points from Blackburn & Bolton then I think we can safely say the 10 games are up and we assess you as not being good enough.
We do not want to wait until the transfer window opens as we need a manager in early who has the time to assess the squad and make positive signings in January.
So Roy you have 2 games left to get 6 points otherwise it is time to fall on your sword before Mr Henry is forced to sack to you.

  39. Should have never got the job. Rafa won more in the last decade than Roy has in the last 4. Dalglish was the fans choice and that’s exactly the reason he didn’t get it. The board wanted someone who would surreptitiously lower expectation and ambition levels. If John W Henry and the NESV board want to come good on their promise to listen to the fans they should start right away by appointing the man the vast majority wanted in the first place. Dalglish is on of the very few men alive who knows the ingredients and DNA of a true Liverpool side. Some people may argue that Football has advanced but I would argue that it hasn’t, technology has. Football is a simple game made easier when you’ve good players. We’ve 15 players in our squad that competed at the World Cup. That not to say it equates to us being top of the league but it shouldn’t mean we’re second bottom. Unless that is we’re being marshaled by a man out of his depth. We need the club to act and act swiftly. They’re simply delaying the inevitable by keeping the man in his job any longer.

  40. this is what happens when you sell players and don’t replace them crouch Bellamy Keane if we kept them we had more than enough fire power to win the league in 2008/2009 season no second striker for two season is a unthinkable, all because Rafa was too stubborn whit his system and not giving world class players chances

  41. Forget about Rafa, dont mistake me i`m still his fan, he is gone. Now we have to move beyond that point. Our Present is Roy, putting aside the obvious comparison with Rafa, his current records is poorer than any of our previous managers. He does`nt seem to be learning much about his team. Its is clear for everyone to see that he simply is not up to the task. This is not fulham or swiss national team, This is Anfield, and Hodgson is overwhelmed the the task. lets not forget that he was a sort of steady hand, that was needed till the ownership saga is resolved, he has not done very well in this time. Meanwhile we finally have a new start, new owners. what better time for New manager, King Kenny can surely take the job till a suitable manager is found.

  42. I want Rafa back!! Period. rembember the Real Madrid bashing, the Arsenal game (4-4), the utd game (4-1 win). Liverpool were arguably the best team in the world at the time.

he loves Liverpool and it is his home. What he managed to do with the cub is great, and of course he came into trouble when the ownership issue, lack off funds etc came into the picture…

    In Rafa I trust!!!

  43. I hope the traitorous morons who called for Rafas head are happy now…

RAFA OVERACHEIVED – given his economic climate – YOU FUCKING MORONS

When does Uncle Woy plan to steady the ship? When its sunk and settled on the bottom?

Well run organisations move quickly to correct mistakes. Sacking Rafa was a huge mistake. Appointing Hodgson was a monumental one. It needs to be corrected – he must be sacked NOW – before he can do any more damage and waste any more money on shite like Poulson, Konchesky or Meireles!

Those idiots calling for time are clearly living in fantasy land…we dont have time and Hodgson cant improve…FFS – he got Blackburn relegated after they won the league…anyone who didnt see this coming is a total and utter moron and should probably be supporting Chelsea because its clear they dont have the brain power to be LFC supporters.

Those who called for Rafa’s head are traitors and complete and utter morons who should not be allowed to be supporters of this club…they can all fuck off and support Chelsea the day tripping wankers!

  44. Im sorry but its only the day trippers and foreigners calling for him,.
Rafa was and still is a poor management.

  45. Rewind 12 months and the bottom three were Hull, West Ham and Portsmouth, only one of whom escaped. And Hull had more points than Liverpool do now from the same matches!!!!!!!!!!

  46. He has statistically the worst record of any Liverpool manager after eight league games since George Patterson in 1928.

  47. Just watch another enbarrasment. In the summer I made it clear to freinds that the last manager I wanted was Hodgson. People said he could be the right man look what he did taking Fulham to the Europa final. Well a couple of things, they played noone of anynote along the way until they came up against athletico madrid and they battered them. Steve Mclaren took Middlesborough to the Final and we all know what he was like.
Each game this season, Hodgson, has used arigid deep formation with no flare or pressing play. He has played different players out of possition and fails to react when things are not working out, like today leaving it until the end of the game to send on subs. Rafa had his critics last season, but he never fielded a side that looked devoid of ideas and passion. We seem to be goning on to the pitch scared. Agger has summed thing up by saying he will not lump the ball out of defence but intend to play it out. He now cant get a start.
New owners please make your first buy a decent manager.

  48. I’m amazd at some of d comments here one Question is why would u want to go back to your vomitus(Rafa),Do u wan t LFC to win games or to win trophies.d trophy won by Rafa wasn’t his team. Now he’s doing d same at Inter Mourinho’s team. Rafa sold Alonso and brought in Lucas. He sold Riise 4 Insua. Pls Rafa is no option.

  49. Roy was picked by the LFC board (of Martin Broughton & Christian Purslow) because he was the man who wouldn’t give them any problems. They needed someone they could give orders to while they were looking for new buyers for the club. But now that the club has new owners, it’s time to take their puppet away because he’s only destroying morale within the players. If Rafa had these kinds of results he would have been crucified by the press and the board would have ‘happily’ sacked him. But as you can see not even the press are giving Roy a bad time…. don’t you think there’s something fishy going on?

For John Henry and NESV as the new owners of LFC, please listen to the fans and the people who really understand and want to see LFC succeed. Roy has got to go because NOTHING is happening under him. The poor guy looks clueless. He’s a nice man, yes, and he’s being used by the LFC board (who are not even LFC fans), so please do the right and kind thing for all concerned – the manager, the players and especially the fans….. get Dalglish to take over for awhile until the club can get a world class manager to take over. Waiting for 2 more games I think would be too late. We’re in 19th position!! It’s not something to take lightly.

  50. I would love to see Rafa back at Liverpool. I think with the new money we should try and tempt Guus Hiddink, or even give Klinsmann a shot, with Dalglish given a bigger role in the club. Definitely not O’Neill though.

Everyone seemed a little sceptical when Roy was appointed and it’s obvious why. He’s been poor in the transfer market, and his tactics aren’t working with Liverpool. He needs to leave the club.

  51. @Brian, the American who didn’t get up at 5am to watch the game. I’m a Brit too but live in South Korea. Most games here start between 2-4am and I watch them all on grainy live streams.

  52. SPOT ON MARK !!! SPOT ON !!!

I Could not have said it any Better, SPOT ON MARK

  53. not roy, not rafa.
i think that all we need is a highest-calibre manager that can lift up the players morale.

  54. My big fear is that the same board members who selected Hodgson (who I rate as a manager, just not a Liverpool one) are the same people who selected the new owners.

  55. Rafa was and still is a top drawer manager, IMO a different league to Hodgson. Inter are 2nd in their league and playing attractive attacking football (not the beligerent 1-0, 2-0 un-entertaining stuff that Mourinho churned out regularly both at Inter and a Chelsea side with unlimited funds), we are playing terrible and are 19th. Rafa, whatever you think of him, has been competing at the top of the domestic leagues in 3 major football countries now.

Rafa got results from virtually the same side and invested in young players which the club desperately needed.

Alonso in his great last year for us, was playing for his next club. His previous 2 years were dreadfull and Rafa was right to look at Barry as a replacement.

I don’t see how moving for Joe Cole was a solution to our on-field problems this summer, apart from us getting a big name player for no transfer fee. Joe Cole was good PR but doesn’t fit the system.

I don’t think Dalglish is the solution though…and definitely not Martin O Neill.

  57. i totally agree with “mark , October 18, 2010 at 12:22 am “.
unbelieveable that there are so many who are blind and are still believing in Roy. what’s more unbelieveable are those who blame rafa for this. judge roy when it ‘s roy’s 11? what happened to the claims that roy is better at people management? we can’t afford to wait any longer as we will be fighting relegation by christmas. this is not befitting for liverpool. we are a strong team who can take on any big teams in Europe. under roy, the team is absoultely pathetic. there is lack of tactics, ideas or team cohesion. SACK ROY NOW!

  58. @AMWhy @Pheeno I guess I’m not hardcore enough because I don’t get watch every game at odd hours of the day. I’m sure if you were also working on a doctorate you’d understand. Do what I do and you’ll quickly think that someone who works a regular 40-odd hour a week office job is a bloody wimp with the luxury of being able to watch as much football (or whatever sport) as they want.

If you disagree with my points about the club go ahead and say so. If you are just going to assume that I don’t love this team because I decided to not watch one game then you need to grow up. My life does not revolve around football, I guess that is a crime around here.

  59. @Frozen
Rafa won the 2005 UCL with Houllier’s team and now he managed Inter with Mourinho’s team, huh? Perhaps you could give me an example of a manager who started managing a new team with completely new squad i.e. the starting XI and all the subs?

  60. A total disgrace! He sits on the touchline with his hand on his chin, without a clue what to do! He doesn’t even talk to the players on the pitch giving them orders!! He doesn’t have any past achievments! When a change of manager is made and needs time, the team may sit mid table or higher and slowly work its way up! Woy’s excuses are wearing thin, and I’m disgusted as a fan to be watching this shite!playing too deep, not pressing, no tactics and bad buys! Enough already pls

  61. Roy must be fired straight away. Can’t wait any longer – Blackburn (h) will be a physical battle like we saw yesterday, Bolton (a) very tricky and Chelsea (h) no need to comment…. Hodgson out, PLEASE!!!

  62. definately agreed with lfc4ever statement.. sorry can we all think barca or real madrid would appoint Roy as Manager?? Liverpool in same class..

  63. Rafa’s supporter – Rafa’s gone, history
Rafa’s hater – Please admit that Roy is not up for this job

What stability has Roy give us so far? Name me something please, there should be something positive and yet i cant think of any?

I cant believe a manager with 35 yrs of experience can make such a drastic change in tactic that make us look like league 1 team. When we lose, it looks like we deserve it. When we draw/win, i thought we are pretty lucky.

Negative football, worst than Rafa, inviting lesser teams to come at us without pressing. 1 man up front with no support at times we playing 8 1 1 formation.

Will Roy change his style? No, he said so himself.

Is our squad really that bad that we cannot even win blackpool/Northampton? No

Roy, this job is too big for you, sorry you have to go

  64. kenny dalglish installed for next game knows the club better than anyone can’t think why he was overlooked in the summer

  65. I am shocked at the approach, shape and formation of our team. Hodgson my not be clueless, but his obstinacy is surely costing us very dear. The type of players he chooses will not serve our cause.
Why should you have a Maxi Rodrigues starting? The enigma named Joe Cole looks like a spent force for the time, and as we are not doing better with his trusted players and ploy, Why on earth do we not blood talented youngsters like Shelvey, Wilson and play Kelly. People like Paul Conchesky and Skertl are simply not good enough to wear the Liverpool jersey. And supplementing this is worn out old men like Carragher, Agger is hardly featured in the right place. Centre of midfield till about a couple of season ago we were the best now it is also a huge liability. So while Roy Hodgson must have tried a lot but it looks like it is beyond his ability to set things right. Surely we need to get the Mr. Right Manager who needs to take some stern measures, make right choices and sell names who don’t deliver.

  66. That last post by Voland sumed up this whole debate, Rafa failed first time and would probably fail second time. If Daglish would of been in charge an been in the same position we are now, would you all of turned on him so quickly?? Probably. If we went back to Rafa an he failed would you turn on him? Probably! You all need to realise the past is the past an thats were it should stay. Get behind the team an manager the liverpool way, because i have every confidence that we will not be in a relagation battle come the end of season. Simply because we are Liverpool an whenever things get rough we get tough as the sayin goes!

  67. we as fans are perhaps too trustworthy of King Kennyr. His last two managerial roles leaves much to be desired. Teh game has also moved on I believe.

We let go probably one of teh 5 best managers in teh world, and now it is showing. A manager who could select his team and develope a game strategy better than most managers I have come to know over teh last two decades.Fergie is the only other one who is right up there.

I say we chase a Gus Hiddink, who is right up there with teh best and who has some premier league experience. The sooner the better

  68. How can hodgson be happy in the work he is doing..and then come out to say “thats the best we have played all season” after the everton game. What a joke. I could drag 11 players out of the pub and make them play better football than that shambles. We are not Fulham. Play your Best players in thier Best positions. One word…Wingers!!! simple football. Hodgson has admitted that its his fault, but I dont see him make any changes or change his style. Im seriously worried about relegation if we continue to keep him in charge. The players dont want to play that style, it gives them no expression and you can tell by thier body language. Everyone is on Torres’ back but what do you expect him to do with long balls and no service what so ever….. Please please please, use the clause in Hodgsons contract and appoint someone that Liverpool deserve. Rant over!!!!!!!!!

  69. A manager is judged on several things-1.Quality of Signings-Poulsen (hopeless) Konchesky (hopeless) Cole (ok) Meireles (ok).2.Tactics-as far as I can see we have none. Pass it around a bit at the back & then lump it forward towards Torres in the hope he might get it. Don’t bother supporting him from midfield. 3.Ability to change the game when its going wrong-no ability.4.Passion-no passion instilled into players.5. man management-jury is out on this but I admit better than Rafa who was reportedly cold 6.Likeability in the Press-here Roy excels where Rafa didn’t. Personally I rather have a b****cks like Ferguson in charge if it meant we won something. Time to go Roy.

  70. @Frozen REALLY??

Alonso was sold but Lucas was NOT brought in to replace him. Riise was sold, and he was losing it a bit, Ensua was brought in a season before when he was 18 (hes now 21) doubt he was a first team replacement as Aurelio was also there and had been there since 2006
Both players stated are under the ages of 23 and were relatively cheap.

On a side note when people say Rafa had money to spend yes he did but he couldnt BUILD he spent 18 on Aquilani AFTER selling Alonso for 30.
Masch wasnt even gone yet and hodgeson bought pulsen to replace him.

  71. Some grim stuff this.

Listen boys, at the end of the day Hodgson is a poor manager, with no credentials and that’s why he can’t win with a decent side he has now. Heard people moaning bout rafa, he had his faults and he’s admitted that, and maybe some of the players(ones not playing much) were happy to see him go, and some of the fans were to cos of his mind games he employed through the media, but at the end of the day he was and still is a world class manager, in the top 5. He came to Liverpool with pedigree and medals to show, he won everything bar the league in 6 years. Hodgson? What’s he won? Danish titles? Big wow, no wonder the players don’t respect him, he’s won nothing, got nothing much to show for 40 years in management. A good example of how we sacked a world class manager for a poor one is, replacing Torres on the pitch for Shaun Dundee, that’s the gulf in class between Hodgson and rafa. The team we have isn’t the best but then Roy hasn’t exactly bought great either, a prime example is getting rid of aquailani, injured last season, gets a full pre season under his belt and give him a run out, what does Roy do? Nah we’ll send him back to the slow league and il get poulsen in?? Logic to that? There is none cos he’s a f*ckin idiot. Anyone in the footballing world or anyone on the street knows from last season Liverpool needed a striker, a striker? Did he get one? No he decided on getting mediocre defenders and midfielders and an overrated Joe cole…

  72. I totally agree with Mark on some points but Rafa had his time and it was time for him to go, it seems to coincidental that he left Valencia in pretty much the same position as we are in now. Bad signings and the likes of the Alonso saga. Rafa was not all perfect but I agree he loved the club and fans. Who cares if the media hated him – they hate us anyway and are loving Woy cos he is dragging us down cos he is out of his dept. It looks like the player dont beleive in Woy, the fans certainly dont.
This is a really worrying one because Kenny would not solve the problem – comparisons with Keegan in that he has been out of the game too long, lets not forget he left us at the drop of a hat too. Rafa could make a comeback but doubt it would bring success, he failed once.
I really think it should be a fresh change from top to bottom, we have new owners now. Lets get rid of the safe hands through the selling process and get someone in to take us forward – Hiddink or Van Gaal for experience, or go for younger options such as Dechamps, Carlos Quirez, Laurent Blanc, Klinnsmann or Claude Puel.
Definately not Martin O’Neill but i would now have a good local background working alongside new manager such as Sammy Lee, Phil Thompson, who is open to offers and have Carra onboard the coaching staff. The club is devout of local passion which is required.

  73. I totally agree with the most of you guys…with rafa we were fighting for the 4th place…but with hodgson we are now fighting against relegation…and liverpool were never that down with Rafa…but please guys dont tell me that Rafa is a great manager…we need a new manager…but not Rafa and certainly not that comic O’Neill…all we need is a high calibre manager with the likes of hiddink, riijkaard, etc…someone who is worthy of being a liverpool manager…

  74. 2-0 down 8 minutes to go and he puts on ngog and babel what did he expect them to do in that limited amount of time . 11.5 million for the porto player who cost us the two goals yesterday spearing is a better player and we could of used that money in a better way the left back would not get a game in tranmere rovers reserve team well done roy . To me the players dont look happy with his management style we have the basis of the team that finished second two seasons ago and now they look like they have never played together reina has stop barking out his orders on the pitch carra is finished great lad that he is and if gerrard gets injured we are knackerd he was the only one that came of with sweat on his shirt yesterday and as for torres he is employed to score goals he gets well paid to do just that he looks like he has never played football in his life if he wants to go then let him go get the money and buy players who want to perform for liverpool fc as for roy your just not good enough the man for the job was sitting behind the new owners yesterday at goodison his name Kenneth Dalglish are these people blind who run the club . yes i think the are and stupid.

  75. Look, Despite being a great Fan of Rafa, we have to concede that it will be impossible to get him at this time of the season. Wat we have at hand is Roy Hodgson, who keeps on proving that he simply has`nt got what it takes. Lets us all agree that he has to go, period! Be it king KEnny or O`niell it doesnt really matter, get Thompson if no one else is ready, now there is a hand who can steady the ship. but Uncle Woy , U Gotta go, go now with dignity, or out as complete failure after next match.

  76. im a liverpool fun and im very sorry whatis going on , we change evry thing , now is the time of players , the old jamie carragher and pepe reina we heve change them also, after that we can see what will hapen.

  77. Mate you hit the nail on the head at the end of the post when you said we need better players. I don’t think you can blame Roy entirely because the fact is that our players are crap – bar about 5 of them (and even Torres is crap at the moment).

We are badly missing Xabi Alonso and to a lesser degree Mascherano and Benayoun. Big names such as Johnson and Cole have been woeful, and new players such as Poulsen, Miereles, Javanovic and Konchesky have added absolutely nothing.

The biggest joke is that we currently have no strikers and our number one striker is currently Ngog. That is a complete joke, no wonder teams like Blackpool are enjoying playing against us. Torres has just lost the plot and is not good enough to get a game at the moment. Where are the back up strikers. Shit Tottenham have about 5 quality strikers compared to our zero.

And then in defence we are a shambles. I am not sure about Hodgson either but I think you need to point the finger at the players also. There is no fighting spirit or team harmony whatsoever. If things don’t change quickly we will be relegated FFS!
