Should He Stay or Should He Go?

Posted by

The last two games we have played were both pretty much instantly forgettable: 0-0 against Utrecht and 0-1 against Wolves. Everyone is calling for Hodgson’s head but I am undecided.

I mean I can people’s point of view who think he should be sacked right away, but I can also see the downside of sacking him and getting in another new manager in. I mean who is to say that the new manager will fare any better than Hodgson and get better results than Hodgson? It is also true to say that results cannot get much worse than they have been under Hodgson, but, they could get much worse, we could lose more games that we win, and where will that leave us? That will surely lead us up shit creak without a paddle.

On the other hand a new manager could come in, by loads of new players in the transfer window and then we could win each and every game until the end of the season, but Roy could go and do that if given the chance also.

I think that he probably will, either, walk or get the sack after today’s result. The question then, is who will take over? And then they’ve got to do the job that Roy hasn’t done, and what if they don’t succeed? What if they make things worse than they already are?

I am not sure that sacking him now would be the best decision, but I also don’t think that keeping him is necessarily the best decision either.

I just don’t know.

  1. I think he needs to go. Right now. Maybe give the job to Kenny for the rest of the season until we find a different manager. It can’t be worse than having Roy there

  2. It’s obvious. Kenny for the season, let NESV find the right man “in the open”.

Nothing can be worse than this.

  3. He should go.

Abusing the fans was the last straw, he has nothing.

We will not get in Europe under Roy. In Dalglish we have a man who knows the squad as well as anyone, and who’s willing to take control.

It may be a risk because of his time out of the job, but it’s a risk worth taking now.

Put Kenny is as caretaker, get someone else at the end of the season.

  4. You could probably sell the majority of the squad if we are talking about people who are under performing.

I just don’t know what can be done.

    It’s a right royal mess.

  5. GO NOW!!! And take Johnson, Krygiakos, Skrtel, Konshesky, Lucs, Meireles, and Ngog with you. Total rusbbish all of them. How dare they wear the red of the Pool. Ashamed to be a Pool fan. Beaten by the team in last place. Torres and Gerard, you’re not a lot better than the rubbish mentioned above. Rafa signed the majority and is a total con man to the Pool. Anybody who wants him back is deluded. In Rafa we got screwed, and now we see his mess.

  6. I’d been giving Roy Hodgson the benefit of the doubt so far this season, being patient with him and his appointment. But tonight’s performance was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

It is true, he may not have inherited the best squad, but he has inherited a squad more than capable of beating a bottom of the table premier league club. His continued persistence with Konchesky is mind-bending and the choice of playing Miereles out on the right and Kuyt on the left just left me scratching my head.

Today was possibly even worse than the Blackpool game and am afraid that if given funds in the coming month there won’t be much improvement. NESV need to make a move now, otherwise after the next few games we will be in a relegation battle

  7. With all due respect, I think yur comment sounds a little conformist and defeated.
The results with another manager can’t be much worse than they are under Hodgson’s management. And even if they were, that is not a valid reason for not taking a risk and save the club’s situation.
Hodgon have proved 18 times now that he is not good enough for a big club like LFC. He succeeded at Fulham, but that doesn’t mean he will do just as great in any other club. He just thinks small. His strategies are designed for smaller teams. He is mediocre at making the line-ups and he disgracefully wastes the player’s talent by putting them in wrong positions. HE can’t design a game plan that perfectly suits his players. He is dreadful at motivating; The dressing room don’t see him as a leader and both players’ and managers’ ideas constantly collide. They just can co exist.

I have decided. Hodgson must leave immediately. I’m willing to risk it and get a new manager that actually cares about Liverpool FC and cares about the fans.

  8. This is ridiculous. The last two games were two of the complete set so far this season (did we beat Chelsea? ~ a performance which I expected and proved to me that Roy was only destructive) Everyone is calling for Hodgson’s head and should not be undecided.
There is no downside to sacking Hodgson, almost any manager could NOW come in and do better than him – the very act of removing him would lead to an improvement.
Results could get worse in the short term, but this is destroying the spirit of the club, and if not arrested will surely lead us up shit creak without a paddle.
It is too dangerous to give Roy the chance to do anything with Liverpool football club.
He will not walk. He is either completely deluded or after his pay off. The question then, is are the owners capable of making the right decision. Things can’t be much worse than they already are.
Sacking him now would be the best decision.

  9. pathetic support and supporters. first sign of a real problem in 50 years almost and listen to you ! hang yer fekkin heads in shame. I wonder how you’d hold up if you’d had 34 years with no trophy and the red b’stards from trafford as next door neighbours. you need to grow some collective cojones and get behind your great club and not so great team.

  10. I have never thought Roy was the man for the job, but that is not his fault the blame lies with Broughton and Purslow for sacking Rafa for none football reasons and then failing to get a manger (Roy was well down the order) capable of taking this club onwards alas I also think NESV will fail in finding a replacement as no top manager will work with Comoli buying the players with the little cash that NESV will spend they always say the will not spend big cash on players, they will invest as little as they can on a stadium so prepare youselves for years of mediocrity

  11. I agree with tublu. There needs to be a change but the only power we have is petitioning and protesting. Not whining online. Up the reds forever! YNWA

  12. I WOULD HAVE RAFFA BACK BUT I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY OTHERS WOULD DISAGREE.O’NEIL WOULD BE NO BETTER THAN ROY.A HIGH PROFILE MANAGER IS NEEDED TO LIFT THE PLAYERS AND TO BRING IN INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS WHO THINK THE CLUB CAN GO SOME WHERE.BUT FIRST ROY HAS TO GO,BY LUNCH TIME WOULD BE BEST

  13. Well lets see what January brings half that side were awful and some of them are awful it is time to find new players, Cole Konchesky Poulsen and Babel can go now.

  14. Why do we need a caretaker manager until the end of the season when Rijkard, O’Neil or Peligrini etc are out there out of a job waiting for a call?

If we do need one then why not bring Rafa back until the end of the season after all from what Roy and the media keep going on about its still his squad and he can get the best out of Torres. He wasn’t as bad as Roy and never will be so i can’t be worse and he can prove to us last year was a blip……YNWA

  15. He should go.. the team have no shape.. they play long ball when they shouldn’t do that.. why?? because the manager don’t have ideas. why you play kygriakos when you have agger.. last night liverpool don’t have winger.. mireless is not a winger.. poor roy.. don’t know what is his player best position.. torres the best striker in the world look like ordinary player.. pooor roy… please go…

  16. a defensive midfielder on the right a slow striker on the left, no wingers we need allot of help Roy needs to go as well as sammi lee since he came on board it is all down hill. has everyone forgotten how he nearly relegated Bolton.

  17. He needs to go. Right now.

It is the manager’s job to get the best out of the players. He is emphatically not doing that. Not just the players he inherited, but even the players he already brought in himself. Why would anyone think he could do better with new players if he can’t get anything like the best out of the ones he already has?

I also feel some of the criticism of the players is harsh. The players tonight, for example, were put out in a ludicrously simplistic formation, with no space, no width, and limited movement. It was obvious within ten minutes that Wolves knew exactly how we’d play and had set themselves up to deal with it, which they did well. Did Roy change anything? No.

Great tactics can’t make poor players great. But terrible tactics can make decent players awful.

  18. Tublu, you are right but Woy should never have got the job,why did Kenny put his name in the hat????? After he had seen the potential managers thats why.He knows Woy is not up to the job,we all know that, who gave him the job???
Ask yourselves that, get shut now,no-one can do anymore damage than him staying.

  19. Roy needs to go asap or we might end up fighting a relegation battle. We should try and get Guus Hiddink if not him then, Ruud Gullit or Jurgen Klinnsmann.

    Roy has’nt got a plan B!!

  20. It pains me to see lfc fans disgrace the club by wanting the head of Roy u people don’t understand he is the caretaker boss at lfc and will definitly be replaced at the end of the season should we not qualify for champions league which looks obvious

  21. Absolutely not Kenny Dalglish for a return. I have had enough of seeing fans call for a return. As good as he was he would be the wrong appointment. He had his glory days, and I think he to would find it an extremely difficult job to take on. He is an old school manager and I can just see fans in 3 months time calling for his head. I think we are all in agreement that Hodgson needs to go, he has shot himself in the foot too many times. As far as a replacement go’s, I have no idea who to recommend, but there is the likes of O’Neill, Aguirre, Low, and possibly Hiddink that could be available. And don’t forget Benitez…

  22. NESV need to act now if they care for Liverpool FC and their fans who are the pay masters. LFC is an institution with a fabulous history and NESV you have invested £300 Million pounds I hope not to fail and therefore call upon the to invest in the right players now and most of all the right manager. I hope you get to read this and all the other fan mails who are crying out for a change now and maybe we can get that 4th place at the end of the season!!! All I can say NESV invest and protect your investment otherwise just like G+H you will lose millions!!!

  23. IF WE GIVE HIME ONE MORE DAY TO STAY AT LIVERPOOL FC, WE’LL BE LAUGHING AT OURSELVES, THEIR IS NO WAY AND NO TIME FOR THIS GUY TO HANDLE A GREAT CLUB LIKE LIVERPOOL FC , HE SHOULD BE SACKED NOW THIS MOMENT, TONIGHT.
OMG, OMG, THIS IS SO SHAMEFUL , PAINFUL AND PATHIC, WE LOOSE TO BOTTOM TABLE CLUB AT ANNFIELD, ON THIS DAY WHEN TWO OF OUR PLYERS PASSED AWAY , BESIDE WE NEEDED THIS WIN SO BAD , SO HOW HE’LL MANAGE BIG GAMES , LIKE CUP FINALS CHAMPION LEAUGE AND BIG LEAUGE GAMES AGAINST THE F********** MANCS.

NO MORE WOY PLEASEEEEEE, NO MORE B********T, WE WANT KENNY BACK , WE WANT KING KENNY BACK .

    YNWA YNWA YNWA

LIVERPOOL IS MY LIFE , LIVERPOOL IS MY LIFE

  24. Bring in Dalglish as manager and Phil Thompson as no 2 to organise the defence. Sell Torres for 50 million to Man City if the Dzeko deal breaks down. Buy Nzogbia, Andy Carroll and Gary Cahill with the 50 million if they get the money from Man City.

  25. In the first place I am not sure, why Roy Hodgson was appointed as Liverpool’s Manager. Just because he had a good season with Fulham last term, is arguably not accepted. If Liverpool were to follow this trend, then they should not hesitate to appoint Mick Macarthy for winning at anfield after 26 years or Mr Coyle from Bolton, who is pushing themselves to European football next term.

BE REALISTIC, BRING BACK THE LAST MANAGER TO WIN THE ENGLISH TITLE WITH LIVERPOOL, YOU KNOW WHO THAT MAN IS.

  26. Dear Rohit. If we wanted a caretaker manager, why didn’t we just ask King Kenny to do it? I believe it was a plan for the old jackass owners to break down and destroy a great team. I believe they were so immediate in turning down Daglish because they were worried of the fervour and the passion that Kenny would have been able to get out of the players, team and fans. Roy has no soccer guile to bring Liverpool to the next level let alone be given the ill fated opportunity to go and purchase players to create his team. Never once have I heard Roy call it the Liverpool Team. It always been his team but when it come to losing it’s the players, their lack of commitment….. but never putting his hands up to say that he played it wrong. There is nothing wrong with the players. This is definitely a top 4 team. There is definitely something wrong with their confidence in the strategy and the style of play they have to conform with. This looks worse than playing a player out of position. It looks like asking Ian Thorpe to do the Tour de France. The players look so out of it that you realise that there must be something amiss, but deeper. Even when we were a goal down, I don’t know if it was only me but it felt like a draw was an acceptable result by the players body language. They’re not enjoying playing this game. Look at the free kick when all the Wolves defence just stepped up and caught almost half our team offside. You might play this off a bottom half team but a top team wouldn’t be that stupid. All they really did was harrass the players on the ball, work hard in closing down and we were nullified. Our playmaker was Pepe Reina who was seeing more of the ball than the rest of the team. I don’t know if it’s passion but the players didn’t know how to succeed in the setup. Player for player substitutions that never changed the plan is the final nail that we do not possess a gaffer who can be technically astute in making changes in the team to counter the opponents style of play. Roy has a plan. That’s it. No Plan B, C, D or E. And it’s lack of vision that should be the reason to relieve him of the post. His lack of passion just adds to it. You have to admit it Roy. You’ve bitten off more than you could chew. You’re much better off with lesser teams like say The national team. Get Kenny and give him the rest of the season to prove himself. But ask Hiddink too. If Roy stays, I believe that it can and will get worse.

  27. Rohit you senile individual, Roys not good enough to last the season, and even if he is the caretaker boss why not get smeone in who is available who can take the club forward like Rijkaard, for one or someone else who is available, why should we have to wait and see more of these pathetic performances the buck stops with the manager and Roy’s not good enough to clean the boots nevermind manage a club which has won the most in English football…….YNWA

  28. Roy is a nice man but being nice gets you nowhere in this game. Look at fergie, arsenal n mourinho who never have a nice thing to say about any team other than their own. With Roy we are developing a small team mentality i.e. Fulham. He’s not cut out for the job, bring in king kenny who will at least inject some positivety to fans n players n look for a proper manager.

  29. you’re undecided, dear God man what does he have to do shit on the this is anfield sign, sodomise the statue of Shankly – youre undecided I give up>

  30. “What If’s”!! It’s the WHAT IFS!!!
    That’s hindering us from progressing..
Hindering us from making decisions, be it for the better or worse..,
God knows what it’ll come out to be..
Roy has given me more nightmares than dreams..
So i’m sorry to say.., no What Ifs for you..
You sure know where the exit is..

  31. Was giving the job to Woy the boy hicks and Gillets parting shot? If so it seems to be a genius way to get thier own back and if NESV don’t get rid pretty damn soon they can say good bye to any support

  32. i hope ROY HOGDSON will be a profsional right now..he knows what to do..you must leave now….you are not the suit for this job..even maybe wolves manager far better than you last night…

  33. what do u mean he should stay or he should go!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????? can u not see how bad he is he can fuck off at any time and should didn’t be our manger the first time, how is he how is he????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  34. dear mr stone,

can I put your whole story in two words “what if”. with respect to you as a pool fan, I really don’t think you had anything, that has not already been said, in this colume.

you don’t know if Liverpool would be better to sack him or let him stay. well if you don’t have an opinion then why did you write the story, perhaps looking for opinions you can adopt as your own, maybe afraid of knocking over the apple cart by saying you like him because he is British. whatever I’m at a loss to see your point. please feel free to email me any point you feel I didn’t get. empire of the kop should have fixed your spelling also.

  35. Now you know why Chelsea didn’t want to give Joe Cole what he wanted. Do you like the way, when he goes to challenge an opponent, he shapes up, with hunched shoulders and apparent 100% focus on the ball, but never actually DOES anything? He just WATCHES intently, trying to give the impression he’s trying hard. He’s always been like that. A bit of a wimp, actually. He NEVER goes for a 50/50 ball, and only goes in hard when a player is moving AWAY from him, not towards him. Watch and see. He is a charlatan and Mourinho knew it, Ancelotti knew it and so did Hiddink. You probably know it too by now, and it looks like your manager has just started to see it too. As for the other Chelsea reject, Johnson, looks like Mourinho was right about him too. Will you be interested in Sturridge next? I hope so.

  36. I agree with Andrew, Sammy Lee needs go with Roy!!
Poor team selection, player played at wrong positions. Each Manager has his style of football bt I hvnt seen Roy signature football.
We r lookin 4 creative players when Aquilani on loan, yes he had a hard 1st season so did Modric & Nasri bt they got game time and they r a force in EPL.

  37. I’m asia LFC fan. I getting fed up with woy. I mean, he has done nothing. For me, rafa is more better than him. Just give way for kenny, he can do it. He knows what to do. Roy is nothing but an old block with just lucky shot doin at fulham. Take a hike woy. Old maggot piece of sh*t m*therf*cker.

  38. HE GOES … Last night hurt .. I couldnt sleep after that… I have to say everyone was bad … Worst player last night was Torres … He couldn’t retain the ball for more than 2 secs … after which he would hand it over to the opposition… If he wants to play like this he too can leave (He was my favourite)…

We sacked Rafa for things better than this … Roy has no plan … It pains to see us play like this …I would rather hurt Roy and the under performing craps … than billions of fans across the globe …

YNWA (but this time roy walks alone)

  39. Crap players, rudderless manager , bewildering tactics. There is a massive whiff of ass of the team this year.

  40. Why are certain people calling us fans to be ashamed? Why are YOU happy to see us relegated?!?!?!?! Shame on YOU I say! So let’s keep this idiot in here, loosing to the bottom team and again in a relegation battle instead of fighting for Champions league! Muppets!

  41. We don;t need loads of new players. We DO need a manager that can instil the winning mentality back into the team. Roy doesn’t know what a winning mentality is, just a hope we don;t lose mentality!!

  42. Pls am 4rm nigeria nd a pool fan, pls henry plsssss we ar beggin u, dis embarrasement is 2 much 4 us..sack dis old hog cuz we ar loosin reputation.
