Hodgson’s sacking must be imminent

Posted by

Away blues reign again.

Last night’s 3-1 defeat at Blackburn has all but sealed Hodgson’s fate. He was out of his depth right from the start. His insistence on tactics not central to Gerrard and Torres has failed to bring the best out of both of them. Baffling transfers, selections, and ridiculous moans to the media.

We’ve had enough. Hodgson’s inability must cost his job. The rot must stop. We’ve had a disastrous 2010 on the road, and this must not be allowed to continue. We have the 4th worst away record in all 4 divisions of English football. Something has to give.

It’s been long overdue. Fans have wanted him out since FSG took over in October 2010. Surely they have had enough time to look at Roy’s record, and concur up a fair assessment on whether he is right for this club.

98% of fans want him out, a petition has been set up, on a scale of infinite protest, which also booted H&G out.

It is time the last man walking on the discredited era of H&G leaves.

I don’t wish reflect on the game at Ewood Park. No one wants to read another depressing match report. Nor do I have any mood to type it out either. Just go Roy, just go.

Rumours are circulating that Hodgson’s sacking is imminent. It has looked increasingly inevitable for the past few weeks, only for this defeat to accelerate it. According to well placed sources, a press conference is called for 10am tomorrow.

Make of that what you will, but my gut is that Hodgson’s sacking will be announced and Kenny will be appointed in the interim.

We’re waiting. Fingers crossed. That this is the end of Hodgson’s era, and a bright beginning for Liverpool Football Club.

  1. Enough is enough. I have stopped watching Liverpool’s game and I have been a Liverpool die hard fan since age 10. Sack Roy NOW!

  2. the best news i want to hear this morning: ROY HODGSON SACKED AS LIVERPOOL FC MANAGER. That will make my good breakfast. YNWA!

  3. man..just **** . i m now hopeless for liverpool and really depressed how my frns tease me shouting the results that we get..
if this continues we will be a club like west ham or portsmouth playing in cocacola league….

  4. Whether it’s today or monday, change will happen if this carries on. I’m a patient fan and have tried to ‘keep the faith’ a little longer than others but my patience is wearing thin.
i’m not convinced kenny is the answer and I certainly dont want RB back. Phil Thommo did well- I’d like to see him and Aldo in. Legends. Knowledgable. Both have coaching experience. Most importantly, they are in tune with the fans.
If Kenny did come in then he would get my full support, that goe’s without saying, but I wouldnt want him to come in and struggle. Saying that, we have a january transfer window now so g, given funds, he would be able to raise the calibre of this squad that has drastically underachieved for 1.5 seasons.
Let’s all be patient- things will work out in the end. What we dont want to do is stay away from the ground.

  5. What more can we really say!?! Another humiliating and embarrassing night and performance for this historic club and as long as the new owners keep on helm this dwarf manager there is no bright light on the horizon for LFC! Will the new owners finally decide to make the right decision for this club and its fans? Will this dwarf manager decides that he is not made up this club?

  6. im concerned who is gonna replave RH to be honest, im not saying that he shouldnt go because he should, of course he should but do kenny, phil thompson etc hav the badges to coach ??? lets not forget theyv been out the game for some 12 yrs now. . . . i hope there is a press conf at 10 am this morning, i havent been able to watch the reds this season as it breaks my heart, iv always looked forward to watchin the reds in action, id set my watch by it, it was a highlight – a way of life – no more im afraid, until something changes and fast with both manager & players alike then i wont be watchin ever again – YNWA ???? in the championship then ??? what a joke we’v become

  7. Roy out. Fingers crossed today he’s going to be sacked and Dalglish will be appointed to steer LFC in the right direction at least until the end of the season. Dalglish will be the sole binding element in re-uniting fans and players into one and re-igniting the tremendous support. It’s been a while since we all saw Anfield explode. PLEASE GO ROY!

  8. TIM….you sound like one of the clueless brigade, who wanted Rafa out and, Woy in. Now if i were you (jesus NO!) i’ll switch to Cricket.

  9. Get this man out of our club now. He’s a disgrace to the club and the fact he has blamed everyone but himself, in public and private, shows he has no clue about what the Liverpool way is.

I’ve never called for the head of an LFC mananger, even Souness, but this inept disgrace of an old crow must go now.

  10. I’m disappointed for Roy, I do not believe he took over a motivated team or club as a whole and he had no money in the summer to spead (remember, H&G still owned the club), so those he signed were to fill gaps only …

Saying all that, its clear that he does not have the stature to motivate world class players, who by the way are also due a kick up the backside, they look average and top players can’t blame a manager for lack of guts.

Roy might be able to turn us around, but can we take the chance, no, its clear he can’t push the players to the levels required … so lets show some respect here and stop dissing the man, he took over when many didn’t want too, he also took over a team already on a downward slope with ownership issues, so thank u Roy but time to pass the batton on.

As a side note … some big players are not giving there all and as a fan of 40+ years I would like to remind all players, you wear the shirt with pride and show true guts … otherwise leave and we’ll spend the money on those prepared to give there all, to be part of the next great liverpool team ..

    Respect

    RR

  11. When he got the sack at Blackburn, it was a 2-0 defeat at Ewood park in November and he was gone 2 hours after the final whistle. Thats shows the pivotal importance of having a board that’s actually based in the same country as the team. I really don’t believe that Messrs Werner & Henry quite understand the brevity of the situation. We’re in a mess, we’ve got United on Sunday at Old Trafford in a competition we can ill-afford to be knocked out of. Each hour that passes with a lame duck manager in charge is an hour when the team should be re-grouping with a new man at the helm. FSGs dragging of their feet is now as detrimental to the club as Hodsgon himself. What’s going to be done in the end is what should have been done before the damge got this bad, as the owners were warned on numerous occasions. Just like Roy I’m dejected and confused. Hope we hear news soon. It’s all getting so utterly depressing.

  12. Hope your right.
I would add where is the evidence for the nice guy reputation of Hodgson.
He has patronised and shown disrepect to the fans of this club, the previous manager and many players since he first stepped in. The spin and lies/fables he has spun are pathetic. the saddest part is that the xenophobic pundits and press have lapped them up and been taken in. Their need to blamer Rafa for anything has led them to support and journeyman, losing long-ball fanatic manager. Every one of them looks stupid with every message of support for Roy and every time they say it isn’t his fault he inherited this squad!! Who passed on Aquilani? Why did Mascherano leave? Who bought Konchesky, Poulsen and played Meireles wide? Who is trying to force rubbish football on world cup representatives who have spent their whole careers passing the ball through midfield? Why is it so obvious that only the fans can see how bad he is but the press and pundits can’t?

  13. i cant beleive managers at all.its not ahard game at all look wot redknapp has done to relegation spurs in less than 2 years . its bout gud players no more no less ,weve bought shit for to long ,i mean get rid of the greek ,babel ,lucas, poulson, konchesky, maxi, ngog jokavic , we would get bout 25 mill for this bunch of crap . ive only left kuyt an jonstone of list till summer haha , an with the money an 20 mill of owners buy striker , winger or two ,full back an maybe mid or c,back my choices wud be , bridge, swp, suirez ,an a winger maybe elio or nzogbia oryoung an youd see diferent team ,or put jonstone on wing an kelly full back ,now wots so hard bout that ,even adebayour . then with the others thats gud team how hard is it haha

  14. ReikiRebel, good to read a posting from someone with a different point of view than the main-stream. You mention that Roy is not able to motivate world class players. Well, Gerrard did quite well yesterday. Who else could be world class in our squad? Reina looks motivated, too. Torres circa 2009 was world class, too, but he hasn’t been since. So I think managing Liverpool right now requires kicking the backsides of a few players who are not as good as they might believe they are rather than motivation world class players. Our other world class players (Alonso, Mascherano) have already left the club some time ago.

  15. its easy to say as roy does thats its everyones fault but his ,he did take over a team strugglin but we all know that a striker an a winger were so much a priority ,so with 20 mill why buy 2 mids one whos shit an the other cant play where hes gud ,because lucas keeps him out of team haha ,an 5 mill for 29 year old konchesky an dalla valle , i mean hes not from overseas he must see where liverpool need improvin it amazing there lack of knowledge ,an to think of sellin agger beggers believe if favour of soto fopr gods sake

  16. Hi Antoine,

How’s about a poll asking who the fans would want as new Liverpool manager (available managers that is)? Probably too late now, but at least we can gauge who the masses want.

  17. Yes please lets have O’neill because he has won the mickey mouse league over in Scotland, managed the imperious leicester City and could not get pass the 2nd round of the european mickey mouse cup even with heavy investment. Oh and he never managed to make 4th place. I can wait. Place an interim manager to make sure we are not relegated (a true possibility now)and then get a truy world class manager.

As for those imbeciles who are still supporting Roy, I would like to know which planet you creatures reside in.

  18. Anyone available and being linked:

    – Kenny Dalglish
    – Rafa Benitez
    – Martin O’Neill
    – Ralf Rangnick
    – Frank Rijkaard
    – Chris Hughton

  19. I fear for roy hodgsons health he is 63 he should not be putting himself through this his doctor should tell him to pack it in and live his life out . He is in a situation were he is out of his depth as manager of liverpool fc the owners should see this and not allow him to go through the stress as for the players saving 3 maybe 4 players the rest have shown us what there about they have no pride in the red shirt they are here for the money they dont seem to care if they win or they loose how some of them are playing at the level their at I just dont know I believe that now may be the time to unleash some of the outstanding youth we have at the club I no they say you do not win things with kids but were not winning things with adults and the kids will have no fear will run there hearts out and play to wear the red shirt what can we loose were heading the wrong direction as it is . O one last thing no dont vote for oneil he never wanted the job he went to villa rather than come to liverpool so dont vote for oneil

  20. Seriously can’t believe the board are ‘undecided’ about Roys future. It’s the most worrying aspect of the whole situation. They are totally and completely out of touch and I for one fear that this doesn’t bode well for the future. Having a chairman and owner based on the other side of the Atlantic, no matter how good modern communication tools are, can not conducive to a good decision making process.

  21. Antoine, here is a list I put together a few days back for live4liverpool: http://live4liverpool.com/2010/12/view-from-the-kop/poll-ten-managerial-candidates-who-is-the-best-for-lfc

How about chopping and changing according to your liking, perhaps adding Ragnick since he has received so much attention from the presss in recent days and perhaps a couple of British candidates like O’Neil and Coyle. You could remove the candidates who have received sparse support so far on the live4liverpool poll (i.e. from Loew down, see results below):

Who would you like to replace Roy Hodgson?
    Rafa Benitez (20%, 806 Votes)
    Kenny Dalglish (18%, 747 Votes)
    Andre Villas-Boas (Porto) (18%, 730 Votes)
Guus Hiddink (Turkey) (14%, 582 Votes)
    Frank Rijkaard (12%, 470 Votes)
Joachim Loew (Germany) (7%, 302 Votes)
Didier Deschamps (Marseille) (6%, 228 Votes)
Jurgen Klopp (Borussia Dortmund) (2%, 74 Votes)
Manuel Pellegrini (Malaga) (2%, 74 Votes)
Michael Laudrup (Mallorca) (1%, 62 Votes)
    Total Voters: 4,076

  22. Ah, I forgot to add – you could always vote of the live4liverpool poll as well if you want to try to “influence” the debate (although we do tend to exaggerate the degree to which clubs listen to fans like us!)

  23. ynwa, ouch! lol! I’m not going to cover ‘the same old things’ again. Personally, I’m made up that Rafa has gone. He was a rip roaring success at Inter, wasnt he? I didnt want Hodgson to come but wanted to give him a bit of time. Our squad isnt up to title-challenging standard- proof is in the pudding eg last season and this season.
My pick would have been Huddink but there was no way he was coming. Hodgson has bought a couple of stinkers but he isnt the only recent LFC coach to do that. Stats dont lie. Were we much better last year too? Thank Jesus (it’s not me by the way) that I didnt want Hodgson in. Get your facts right before you write stuff like that.

  24. oh, and by the way, where I wrote about investing money in the january window- it was a reference to kenny dalglish and not Hodgson. Maybe you misunderstood.
If I seem to have been patient with him I’ll tell you why- I didnt want there to be an LFC manager that has never won a trophy at the club. As things are now though, I probably feel the same as everyone else. I really cant be bothered getting into a stupid spat with you.

  25. TIM…Rafa’s ‘roaring success at Inter, wasnt he?’ as you say?. For your info, in the six with Inter, rafa won the Italian ‘Super Cup’ and the ‘World Club Championship’ with ONLY four senior players available throughout his six month’s stay. Now compare that to Hodgson six month’s at liverpool, or if you like compare it to Hodgson 35 years in management!.

  26. Like I said, I’m not going to get into a stupid spat with you. We should just ‘agree to disagree’ re- RB. We obviously view him in a different light and we could probably tittle tattle about it for ever and a day.
I got the impression that you assumed that I am an avid woy fan. I’m just trying to tell you different. We can all have differences of opinions without getting techy with each other. I was trying to say that I was nearing the end of my tether with him. I’d originally said to give hime one transfer window when he was initially taken on but I cant see him making that far. I thought we were going to get Pellegrini, so did the bookies.

  27. Please stop this RAFA rubbish. He won the CL and FA cup with Houlier’s squad plus a couple of additions. He did nothing for 3 years after that, and had 1 away win in 2010. He drove away our best players. He’s gone, he’s part of our history, now we need to concentrate on removing the obviously poor Hodgson before we’re relegated.

  28. This is turning into a stupid sidetrack. It’s got nothing to do with him now anyway. it’s about here and now. This is down to a seemingly misunderstanding between ‘ynwa’ and myself.
    Let’s just move on.
Getting back to the point, if each of you could pick one name to manage the club (and not just as a caretaker post) who’d it be?

  29. Yeah Tim, Let’s move on, because Antoine’s link has shown you up to be a bit of a pleb, right?

You said it yourself – “Stats dont lie”. Rafa – Our best manager in terms of win ratio (all that matters really) since Kenny. Better than Shankly ffs.

  30. Same old Rafa bashers who helped to hound him out in the first place. Thanks to them we have become the joke of the PL. You will always hear a few of them make excuses such as “But I never wanted Roy”. Well which world class manager did you expect to replace Rafa in a club where the net spend per season was close to zero, 2 warring owners and and the whole institution freefalling into financial oblivion? From smashing Man U 4-1 at OT and humiliating Real Madrid 4-0 in the same week to getting thrashed to a managerless blackburn.

  31. Jerry, get a grip. I’m not going to put myself down to the same level where I start playground tactics of name calling. For goodness sake. Some of you only like the sound of your own voices and arent prepared to hear other people’s opinions. I’m not going to start dissing you for liking him- behave with some decorum.
I’d also debate with you that Shanks was the most successful manager at LFC- statistiscs or not. Think what you want, just be adult and stop name calling.

  32. Jack, you missed out the season in the middle.
Dont portray me to be something I’m not when you dont even know me.

  33. Enjoyed those stats. There is a problem with stats though, They don’t take into account that in Rafa’s last 2 years in charge he had to buy before he could sell. ie net investment of 0. They don’t take into account that Purslow handled transfer dealings and paid over the odds for players in the last 2 years. We could go on but Rafa bashers may choose to look elsewhere rather than these facts!!! Hodgson is nearly the worst ever!!

  34. I have no faith in Woy or our present owners (you know the guys, the ones who said they “will listen”, well they ain’t hearing the supporters now are they?.

These present owners don’t really care, as long as they make money and as long as LFC are in the EPL they will always make a good bit of money!

The only way these guys will listen is if they are hit in the pocket, so if we want to be heard, we just need to keep away from the games! and lets see how long they stay actionless!!!

  35. Looking on the positive the delay could mean they have decided to sack him and are deciding who should take charge in the meantime before giving a press release.
In previous weeks they have been quite quick to offer support and sympathy for Roy. Especially in his plight having to try and organise world cup players into a team that can beat bottom of the tabke clubs!!
Maybe they have lost patience? Lets hope so.

  36. No player will want to sign for us for 2 reasons… 1 we are shit and 2 they won’t wanna sign for s caretaker manager.
For the sake of king Kenny, his stature among the fans and his reputation within the club I hope they don’t give him the job. We are heading backwards and will continue until the stabilty of a young vibrant attack minded manager appointed on a permanent contract is confirmed. If Roy would’ve tried to embrace the culture of the club and the fans I reckon he may have got a bit less shit from the fans but his ignorance towards us and this love in he has with fergie is cringe worthy

  37. I suspect that the owners will give Roy another chance and will want to know what can be done – in the short term – to improve the situation, even if that means splashing out millions on new players. We haven’t heard anything other than that owners are not pleased with the situation – who is?

  38. Roger, you claim that while the new owners said they would listen they didn’t sack Roy yet and therefore are not listening to the fans demands. I won’t discuss with you whether or not Roy should be sacked mid-season and whether it would stabilise or destabilise the squad, but just imagine for a second if they did what the fans want now and put a manager in place they can get. And then things don’t get better and the fans will again ask for this manager to be removed and so on. Maybe the owners spoke to Kenny and Damien about what they think about the situation and they said that it’s rather the players than the manager. Or whatever. My point is that if one wants a business to run successfully it should not necessarily listen to the man in the street but to have a wider perspective.

  39. Anteater,
A squad that came 7th after being many peoples tips or the title that year has been inherited by Hodgson and is breaking all Liverpool records for incompetence. Rafa was sacked for doing better than Roy and even though his previous 5 years suggets he was worth giving anotgher chance. What needs to happen for Roy to go? Everton to put 5 past us without any top flight strikers?
NESV said they liked statistics and facts AND would hear the fans. The combination of both these should prompt then into action. How bad will it have to get before we act? How many more teams with inferior players have to pass us off the park until we get rid? How unbearable does it have to get watching our team play rubbish outdated hopeless footbal until he gets sacked?
I don’t think some of Roy’s backers are actually watching the games. We are now worse than Stoke, Blackpool, Bolton, Newcastle, Blackburn etc. The last 2 got rod of their managers. Do their owners have higher expectations than ours? They must have otherwose Roy would have gone by now.

  40. Fair enough, neil d, you make some good points. It is hard for me to take our current situation and I do watch the matches, but what I think we need more than a new manager is players who take responsibility on the pitch. What we see now and have seen at least last season is a bunch of players who seem to think that Stevie G. has to do it all on his own. Now is not the time to get a top notch manager of another team, unless you think that Rafa should be our manager again which I don’t. Unfortunately we may have to wait until the end of the season to get new players and a new manager.

  41. Anteater you have no idea. You can get in any team a couple of players who just don’t care. When it is practically the whole team then its a leadership probem. Its that simmple. Managers aren’t just tacticians they are there for leadership. They inspire, create confidence and create a winning attitude. Your excuses are disgraceful and show such a lack of understanding. If this was Rafa you would no doubt ask to have him hanged months ago. If you are Kanwar in disguise then stop this crap.

  42. Anteater & Neil you both have made good points I would like to come in with a few points myself firstly the players we have are very highly paid players at liverpool who are just not performing to there full capacity we seem to have a manager who seems to be unable to motivate the players to play to their full capacity . The problem as i see it we have no chief exc at the moment to get the player’s and the manager together sit them down and explain that they are all employees of liverpool football club and to date they have all under achieved that there probably up there with the best paid players in europe as the managers is and if they all want to stay as employees of liverpool fc then there has to be masive improvements all around other wise decisions will be made about them all at the end of the season because you can not have players who think they are bigger than the football club dictating who comes and goes it does not matter who they are they will only be here a few seasons the club will be here for ever. once you have the lunatics running the asylum you have lost control of the club and that club will be finished . Secondly the owners fenway sport will not bow to lynch mob attitudes that they are recieving from fans in the form of web sites and emails they will make the right and best decision for liverpool football club and there business thats what they did in there baseball club and they got it right they won the world championship so they know what has and has not got to be done in the situation we find our selves in at the moment . Thirdly I as a supporter of 47 yrs am not happy with the way things are at liverpool fc but I believe that the negativety from the supporters at the games and on web sites is rubbing off on some of the players its negativety that creates negativety on the park the players hear this during games and it has a adverse affect on there performance I am not making excuses for them but this is a known fact and we as liverpool supporters known around the world for are fare play sportsmanship and our fervent support for are team and our manager is world renowned so lets get back to these ways and show the world the true liverpool fans not the negative ones we have at the moment .
