Fernando Torres came to our club as a Spanish starlet with bags of potential
from humble origins with a desire to play for a club he was passionate
about, or so we thought.

Liverpool fans welcomed Nando like he was part of the family, the whole of
Anfield sang his name in unity along with millions watching in pubs and at
home. When England didn’t qualify for the Euro’s Liverpool was a wash with
Spain flags, tortilla stands and Spanish music, with more Torres Spain
shirts on show than Gerrard England ones. We adored the lad and he adored us
back, scoring wonderful goals, saying he loved the city and how he would be
honoured if his little girl grew up to be a Scouser.

Then things got a bit difficult, we lost some key players, we lost our
manager and our owners were hell bent on fucking us over! Any fan playing
for Liverpool would have dug their heels in, been the bigger man and fought
for the club, but it quickly became apparent Nando was not a Liverpool fan
he was just a Liverpool player!

My displeasure in Torres going to Chelsea is not that he left the club,
these things happen, it was the way he presented himself to the fans as a
loyal, passionate red! He made us believe he loved the club and I for one
thought he was going to be a future legend often comparing him to Fowler,
Rush and (now it seems ironic) Owen. From the interview he gave last night
its perfectly clear Torres came to Liverpool not because he loved the club,
but because he thought we were a dominant force in England and in Europe.
Then as soon as things took a down-turn he jumps ship. People might disagree
but all I can say is one official offer = one transfer request.

Its apparent footballers are now bread not to just play football but to feed
into the money pool that is the loyal fan base. Shame on you Fernando, you
could have been Anfield legend!

  3. So true. He lost every bit of respect I had for him saying that Chelsea were a top European Club. How many times have they won the Champions League…NONE Liverpool 5, League Titles…4 Liverpool 18, seriously, if he had gone to Manchester that would have been a more believable line. Its just sad to see that happen. I believe he will turn into Owen, bags of skill, but always riding an injury on the bench.

  4. Yo can go on about this issue for another six months…or you can forget he ever played for Liverpool and move on.

    Both he and Chelsea behaved dishonourably. However I think the biggest shock for Chelsea is that Liverpool managed to identify a replacement [in Carrol] so quickly…I don’t think they planned for a scenario where Liverpool would find a replacement before the Transfer Window shut.

  7. We all thought he was an honest young man but turned out to be devious. Torres you have let yourself down we will move on as you are not bigger than our club. You left for the Chavs fair enough but you had to have your parting comments for which there was no need.   8. I think the interesting thing, not just with ‘Nando, is the amount of footballers who say “I want to win trophies.” Not, “I want to help this team win trophies,” or “I want to win with my teammates.” It’s suddenly a complex to win trophies individually that drives the player.

    It’s funny because as bad as things have been, this team has won a CL and been to a final in the last 6 years. Chelsea have been to one final and never won, IN THEIR HISTORY. Have they won the EPL 3 times in the last 10 years, sure. But they strike me as a team that is a compilation of individuals rather than a unit that gets along great. Those teams can win games individually and win a league. Those teams can’t win tournaments.

  10. i am hurting as much as anyone about torres leaving and the manner in which it was done; he couldnt have hurt us more if he tried:( however i am grateful that he was with us as long as he was, he could have jumped ship 2 years ago if he was as callous as you say. im sure he will regret leaving and although i hate him right now i still love him. i just wish he could have hung on until may and at least given kenny the opportunity to get us into the top 4. we may still do it without torres but i would have preferred it if he had stayed.

    i think he has had his head turned and he will realise this pretty soon that it doesnt get better than liverpool and what he had here. i dont begrudge him the money, he deserves it; demonstrated by the amount of hearts broken all over the world when he left.

  11. How stupid can you be, Green? A top-class palyer such as Fernando Torres LIVES to play at top-class clubs that are worthy of his talents. Obviously 7th place Liverpool who aren’t even in the Champions League won’t cut it for him. He did what he needed to do as a footballer and I think we all need to respect him for that. It’s not about the money, it’s about the quality, asshole! And at Liverpool there hasn’t been quality football for some time now.

A lot of Liverpool fans need to get real, he is going to be at his peak for the next 3 years and needs Champions League football which is something we aren’t going to be able to provide for at least 2 years. The only criticism I have is that he should have waited until the end of the season and then left. I say good luck to him and thanks for the memories Fernando, I will certainly great him with applause when he returns to Anfield next season. You cant blame him for wanting to better himself.

  17. handed in a transfer request with 2 days of the window left. obviously didnt give a toss about his team mates or the fans.
    had one great game this season, against chelski….. rest of the time wasnt interested.
    would have been easier to just put in the transfer request in the summer. what a sad end. i feel sorry for him.

    How about helping your team get to where it needs to be, not jumping ship to a rival team. His total lack of respect for LFC is astonishing to me. Leaving is one thing, but the manner in which he did it doesn’t show his ambition, just a lust for money. He won’t win the champions league with the rent boys and when ancelotti gets fired at the end of the season (which he will) Torres will wonder whether he made the right decision.
    Dalglish, along with NESV brought stability, unity and belief to our club. It’s a shame Torres couldn’t see it for the pound signs.

  23. Im probably in the minority here but i really doubt he went to chelski for the money. To me it seems he just fell out love with the club. He probably thinks that he was being lied to with the promise that texans would bring in talent to improve the club. It was true with H&G. My problem with him is that he didn’t give the new owners a chance. My guess is he’s not strong enough to endure the problems with the club. He probably thinks he’s getting injured for no reason and not contending for anything.

    Now I hope we can sign one or two true wingers this summer.

  24. Hey Snyder do you not get it? Are you absolutely stupid. If you read the comments from Livepool fans here and every other forum you will see that nearly 100% of them are not angry because he has left but in the manner that he has done it. He has shown absolutely no decency nor any feelings toward the fans who adored him. By all means go to a team that you believe will help to win things but don’t belittle the club you’ve just left, hand in a transfer request 3 days before the deadline, show no interest for months and last of all profess to see out your contract only a couple of weeks ago. Ambition I can handle. Treachery and deceit? No way.

  25. Worse than that is he was earning 120k or 130k depending on reports and his contract said that he could leave if we didnt qualify for CL, he disregarded that and jumped ship!

  29. Torres was on his way to being a legend but to be honest is best for all concerned now that he is gone. Hasn’t done it for a season and a half now. Sulked and moaned and didn’t help out at all. 50m is a great result for us. The two new lads will be better for us as a team and hopefully King Kenny will let Jamie Carragher know who is the only legend at the club and the one who calls the shots. Adios Nando.     @Snyder, when El Liar was in Atletico, they did not win anything. When he left for Liverpool, Atletico won the Europa League and another cup.   39. We haven’t reached the final of any cup competition since signing Torres. Before he signed we were in at least one for three years. Maybe sacrificing a few strikers who were not world class for this one unbalanced the team as a whole. If Suárez and Carroll click and stay free from long term injuries we might be a lot better of without Torres.

    Players goes around clubs, so I never though that Torres would “forever” in LFC, but the timing is so bad: at winter transfer windows, at merely a few days before it closed so we have to rushed to get the replacement (causing inflated price of Carrol), AND (and this is the big and) no respect for the fans that has shown him the warmest love possible from what fans could do for a foreign player, unlike Ryan Babel, who has more respect of fans with his attitude toward them.     To be guaranteed a place in the national side, he probably needs to play in CL. Based on our current total of points, we are not part of CL next year. That is my guess on the logic of his thoughts. Still… this does not mean that I like what has happened…

  46. this cheating bastard has addmitted what i for one already knew, that he was wanting away since last summmer (when he was dealing with martin broughton)he said at the time of the take over that the chairman was on the phone to him all the time ? it struck me as odd then as he wasnt dealing with him, broughton could not get away with it at that time with being in charge and selling benyoume hence the need to wait. torres of course the traitorous bastard decided not to even try for us, one less challenger for chelsea, i have never wanted a transfer to go through more than getting rid of this shit. now he is gone we will be twice the team we were and the lads should be well motivated by his insulting the fans and them.

  55. he has left to win medals, but fsg only bought lfc in october. Its very difficult to buy 5 quality players in jan window, so obviously our recruitment of these players will be in the summer. Its the previous regime thats ruined the club. We dont have much debt. Good revenue and sponsorship. He hasnt played well- and for conspiracy theorists, he only done well against chelsea! He is two faced for me now. We are well rid. Wait and see what happens this summer. We are going to be back in the running with a much better squad. Kenny has already being shifting out the dead wood- babel.. Konchesky. Maybe Jovanovic, poulsen, skrtel, insua, n’gog will follow in 6 months?
