Although we left January with high spirits, (Despite losing one of our greatest ever strikers) last weeks draw against Wigan highlighted once again the frustrating element of Liverpool’s inability to claim goals in vital circumstances. Luis Suarez all but scored, he looked sharp especially when considered he had not played much football since December. He strikes a similarity to Carlos Tevez to me, looks busy, and gives everything he has, which is massively welcome. However Torres, Suarez, Carroll. Whatever strikers or forwards we have it seems to be insignificant without that imperative creativity within the middle and on the wings.
For the first time in a while we can look forward (I think we can anyway) to a full summer of decent transfers. Our owners have a philosophy of buying young, rather than older players, which I agree with… We should show intent this summer, in all we only spent 2 million in January, so money should be made available. Here is my wish list that I feel could make Liverpool a true force next season…
One thing we learned about Torres is that players lie and leave. Pepe Reina, worryingly has put clouds over his future, with Arsenal and even Man United as possible suitors. Hugo Lloris being the French National goalkeeper has also caught the attention of both these teams and if Reina goes he wouldn’t be a bad replacement. And we know Dalglish doesn’t wait long to draft in future stars.
A player I have massively admired since moving from Wigan to Everton. Without doubt the likely hood of this happening is very, very slim, if at all possible. Rumours he is a Liverpool fan have floated round, but I’ve heard he’s a blue. This would be as big a hatred as the one Rooney spawned if he were to come, and following this season he wouldn’t be cheap. Probably around 20 million. But what a signing he would be.
In the likely event we don’t go for Baines another left back I have fallen for is Filipe Luis, he only joined Athelitco last summer and did cost around 12 million. But he is talented. An extremely energetic player who reminds me of a 2001/02 John Arne Riise. Strong at the back and technically talented going forward.
We should get over him, but this could be the Alonso replacement. Vision and passing the man from Basque would be proud of. Papers suggest Man United are looking for him as a replacement for Scholes, but considering him and Giggs are some sort of cyborgs refusing to give up, that wouldn’t be happening anytime soon.
So nearly in January, and so nearly a Tottenham player (Thank God they were too late) Adam surely replaces Gerrard’s Roy of the Rovers tag. Single handedly at times keeping Blackpool in games. Hopefully Kenny will get his man this summer.
Not much to say from me really, I think he is class. And maybe a favour from an old friend at Villa?
Just like the ever loyal Mascherano, Afellay isn’t playing ever week. And apparently is disgruntled by this, fearing what happened to Hleb could happen to him. Unless things improve there he may move on. A player Camolli is very keen on.
There’s competition of a massive scale. We could be easily out muscled by Chelsea, Madrid or Inter. But when he came to Anfield last season in the Europe League he apparently mentioned he was impressed by the culture of the club. That’s one thing that could give us the leg in his signature.
Surely nothing says strength like depth? If Suarez or Carroll get injured or even both, we are straight back were we started. I think Ngog tries the best he possibly can, but he just isn’t good enough. Wickham is raw talent, and is touted by all the top clubs as one for the future. Along with the emergence of Raheem Sterling and others, Wickham could be part of the next wave of English stars, and I wouldn’t complain if he arrived this summer.

I’d love to have Ashley Young, too, but I’m wondering if our “old friend” might not still be in his current position at AVFC this summer to facilitate that transfer. (Perhaps another “old friend” will take his place…)
Wickham is a must and I’d wager based on what I’ve read of FSG’s philosophy promising young English players like him are top priority. I don’t think Carroll’s signing changes that basic approach, particularly given that Wickham’s only 17!

I must be the only person in the world who doesn’t rate ashley young..everyone is screaming for him, but i personally don’t rate him that highly.Although, that doesn’t mean that he couldn’t be a success at anfield, it’d love it if we bought him and he seriously contributed to improving the team, i’m not sure he’s that man. It’s all about opinions though.
I think afellay is a good player, but i wouldn’t want someone who wanted to join us who started moaning about not playing, after only being there for two minutes. It is important to note that i don’t think he’s actually said anything himself about the situation, so it’s clearly just nonsense. the preserve of the likes of givemefootball and the daily mail.
I keep hearing about coentrao and hazard as well.. they would clearly enhance the squad, but i can only see a crazy bidding war being staged for them once the summer comes..regardless of what favourable comments have been attributed to them (regarding LFC) given that KK would most likely be looking at at least 4-5 players, it may be difficult for FSG to go all out and buy the fantasy players we’d all like..or certainly not all of them anyway.
Baines is a Liverpool fan. He’s said it himself numerous times. We could get him for £12-15m – remember, Everton are in dire financial straits and they wouldn’t be able to turn down good money.
Ashley Young just isn’t good enough. No final ball and goes missing during big games. Instead, buy Arda.

Baines is far from world-class. Would be another Konchesky-like fiasco. Lloris has a long term contract with Lyon. Filipe is a great player, but gets injured more often than Aurelio. Adam is over-rated by the media because he’s british (scottish, but still). Afellay is overrated because he joined Barcelona (people still talk about Milito as though he was world-class). As Dortmund are walking with the Bundesliga title this season, I can’t see Sahin leaving when he has a chance to play CL football. Would be lovely if we signed him though. As for Hazard and Wickham… where do I sign the “I agree” note? ;)
how about navas, he is a great winger and i could be the only lfc fan that think kuyt is not so good ,he is hardworking but doesn’t hav much quality and if we buy any winger and saurez and caroll would be fit then where he would play.
Should Reina chose to leave, I’d much rather we went after Guillermo Ochoa of America de Mexico or even give Peter Gulacsi a shot. Kid’s got it in him.
IMO.I think we only need a pacey winger and a destroyer DMF. I think hazard or adam johnson (he has the attribute to be the next english star, I’m so afraid that mcfc will makes his career stop). Also, we need a player masche, who hard and tough to win the duel, get the ball, then pass to lucas/gerrard/meireles. I think cattermole or mats hummels (dortmund) looks good for this position. But one thing we all must remember that we have many good youngster like pacheco, spearing, coady, wickham, jack robinson, so we need to give them a chance to play often.

The owners have reduced the debt to alomst zero which means we no longer have to pay/accrue annual interest payments of 40 million. Even though we are not earning Champions League money, Liverpool is still making 25+ million profit per year.
Also, NESV had intended to buy Suarez this winter BEFORE Torres decided to leave, which showed their intent. They then tried to sign Young, M. Richards and Charlie Adams after siging Suarez/Carrol.
I’m not proprosing that they’ll be spending 100+ million a la Chelsea/Man City/Real Madrid, but I wouldn’t be the least surprised if we spend 40-50 million, especially after we sell a few from the squad.

If I were looking to add to the squad for realistic values we could afford I would look at Taiwo (£5m) or Luis Felipe (£10m although he is injury prone) bring a playmaker Sahin (£10m)and Turan (£10m) as company for Sahin and I would also look to do a swap between Kjaer and (Skrtel +£4m), if we want a holding midfielder then look at Lassana Diarra (£8m) to fund this we would sell J Cole (£7m), Aqualani (£12m), Jovanovic (£5m), Maxi(£4m) and Poulsen (£5m) which would mean we would only have an outlay of around (£10m)

Nice to see Sahin on the list, class player that doesn’t get a mention much. He has great vision, but also a bit more to his game going forward. I would get him in along with Coentrao at left back and Hazard in for the left wing. But we are probably talking £55-70 million already there! Would improve our squad massively though. But to be honest we need other players too; first choice centre back to partner Agger, backup right back, a defensive midfield option, right winger and a backup striker.
I think we should go for Arda turan, highly rated throughout europe, pacy winger, bags of skill, captain of his team, fully fledged international AND a liverpool fan

Good to see the post making some debate. I do mean this as a fantasy list. Of course I do not expect us to but each player on the list, but holding up a full list to create an idea of the players I would like to see at Anfield. Hugo Lloris is only there incase Pepe Reina leaves as Pepe is one of the best on the planet. I’m surprised some do not like Baines or Adam, Baines has been excellent since going to Everton and has gotten better each season. Very good point about Affelay, if he is moaning at a club like Barcelona then he will probably do the same at Anfield.

There is one important fact on summer transfers. Who is going to be number 1 goalkeeper? Reina has made it plain that he will be leaving at the end of the season and nothing will change his mind. He is adamant that he will be playing for ManU next season. We need to get the replacement sorted ASAP! We cannot believe anything he says other than he wants to play for ManU…The rest becomes incidental.
Reina is NOT the best on the planet ( he is not even selected as Spain numero uno!). He is doing an FT and getting out to Manutd at season end. He is good but not that good! On more occasions he flatters to deceive this season. We need a replacement.

Apart from the fact that selling all those players will destroy any concept of team spirit – What happens when some of them don’t want to leave? What happens when no one wants to buy them? And what happens when you magically manage to sell them and then the players you want to bring in don’t fancy North West weather?
Utter foolish dream land. To build a strong team we can’t realistically trade more than 5 or 6 players in total.
I think we should get a couple of wingers and a left back, maybe Coentrao, Young and Hazard, also maybe Charlie Adam (though I admit maybe more for romantic reasons than practical). I think we can safely let go of all or most of those on loan plus 1 or 2 others, maybe N’gog and Jovanovic.
This is all guess work and supposition however. The squad doesn’t need, and more importantly cant take, huge upheavals and still remain competitive.
Also I wouldn’t want to be that team, like the Man City’s and Chelsea’s of this world, who buy their way out of difficulty with no regard for the ethos or long term well being of the club.
i think a left back and winger should be a priority,for me i would love ashley young and fabio coentrao if we could make that happen. connor wickham would be a good prospect but when i have seen him 10 million that is mentioned is a bit steep. if we could afford anyone else i would like to see gary cahil play for liverpool and then another winger and centre mid.

What we need an more realistic imo:
Taye Taiwo – Left back, top class and out of contract in the summer – Commoli has been out to watch him. This could be a done deal already.
Sylvain Marveaux – Left midfield but also versitile and can play as attacking central mid. is 24 and also available on a free. Came to Anfield in Jan to watch a game – Rumoured this could also already be a done deal.
Maybe bring back Aquilani if Juve wont pay the cash.
We will sell Jovanovic, Konchesky and Maxi. Possibly Cole as well if he doesnt show he is still the player he was a few years ago. This should raise in the region of £10 Million. This added to a £15 – £20million investment by FSG would then allow another marquee signing, possibly A.Young.
This combined with the blooding of more youngsters such as Shelvey, Pacheco and co should give us a strong squad.
The problem we have is that, although we spent a net of £1.8m in January – Torres & Babbel out and Suarez and Carroll in, we have this perception now of big spenders so whenever our name gets mentioned the player price hikes. We do need to calm down, but it would also be Very interesting to see how some of our loan players like Aqua, Ensua & Amoo for example would fare under Kenny. These would be like new signings in themselves. We could then re-prioritise and concentrate on areas we really need to improve on like CM, CB and Wingers are a must..but the squad would certainly have more depth and quality by recalling a few loanouts, but leave Koncesky at Forest..

I agree with some points and new signings. We must keep Reina. Carragher Wilson and Agger are our centre backs. Let Storios and Skertal go. One from either Mats Hummel or Subitoc at Dortmund look good replacements . Creativity in midfield should bring in Ashley Young and Nuri Sahin(again Dortmund) would be ideal. Marveaux has already signed pre contract on free. He is quick winger. Left back is priority – Coentrao or Enrique from newcastle would be ideal . Youngsters should be allowed to make up squad. Such as Wisdom, Pacheco, Shelvey, Suso, Coady, Sterling & Ecclestone. Kelly to continue at right back. And with the exciting Carroll/Suarez partnership let’s hope we can get these to enhance squad. We still have money to spend as Torres sale leaves us flush. Likely departures like Aqualani fo 11 Million will add to transfer kitty.
