Who’s Come In, Who’s Gone Out, Who’s Been Put On Ice!

Seven new faces, eleven players sold and two released, plus seven players sent out on loan. This is the result of what promised to be, and what effectively turned out to be an extremely intense summer for Liverpool FC.

New signings Downing, Enrique and Adam have already given account of themselves, while Henderson is beginning to blossom nicely. Late newcomers Coates and Bellamy helped put the cherry on the cake as they both are in effect excellent deals. Coates has the pedigree, potential and confidence to become a Liverpool favorite and we all know what Bellamy is capable of (on and off the pitch!), and under Kenny’s guidance the Welshman will most definitely thrive. Finally we have two players that can offer depth on both sides of the pitch!

This transfer window has been successful not only because FSG have exceeded expectations in providing transfer funds, but also because the announced mass exodus happened. The dead-wood list has now been cleared guys. So no more complaining please!

A special mention for the departure of Raul Meireles! Though the rumour mill churned up headline after headline, most of us perhaps hoped he would stay. In the end, the player handed in a transfer request and I think that businesswise the Club made a good deal. Raul was perhaps one of the few positives coming out from last season. Pity he was not prepared to stay and fight for his place, that’s unless he was told or sensed he was not longer part ‘of the plans’.

This re-model has cost, from the amounts touted on the media, a figure close to Stg 42 million. The sale of Kyrgiakos, Poulsen and Insua might have contributed to reduce that amount further, even thought their deals remain undisclosed. We find ourselves with a leaner squad but definitely and without any doubt we have more quality and the average age has plummeted drastically. We are still catching our breath from this session, but I am sure the fine tuning will continue in January!

  1. Now the current squad looks strong.Add a right winger in it and it is very strong.we got 15 million and 4 million for Meireles and N’Gog in the last day of the transfer window.plus we got rid of high earners like Jovanovic,Joe Cole…etc.i think we will make a transfer in January and the player i’d love at Liverpool would be Adam Johnson.he has pace, skills and is unhappy at Man City as he has Silva and Nasri ahead of him.
    Reina
    Johnson Coates Agger Enrique
    Lucas Adam
    A.Johnson Gerrard Downing
    Suarez
Bench:Doni Kelly Carragher Skrtel Aurelio Spearing Shelvey Kuyt Henderson Maxi Bellamy Carroll
    YNWA

  2. Still think raul should hav stayed in. Why does manu, chelsea, or manc dont sell berbatov, hernandez, anelka, kalou, or tevez, ballotelli, etc. Bcoz they focus on depth. Not us, our playrs start being insecure. Many would AGREE HERE with me.YNWA

    1. They do sell unhappy players though. Everyone does except for man city and tevez. That was only because no one could afford him though. If a player wants to leave, then let him. Nasri left, fabregas left.

Kalou. Hernandez, berbatov, Anelka, balotelli never put in a transfer request. Meireles did. No point keeping an unhappy player. He wasn’t going to be a regular starter this season anyway I recon. Would have been a good player for the bench, but oh well. Hopefully will invest the money in a younger cm or winger in January.

  3. i think LFC have doen great business this window, even Raul going.

For all his good work going forward, he was lightweight in the defencesive duties. and any player who does want to be here should go anyway. Although i think the main reason for him wanting to go, previous owners/management telling they would look at his wages if he had a good year this summer and the new incumbents saying thanks but no thanks,we’re trying to cut wages.

  4. The signings are settling in nicely .I’m dissappointed Meireles has gone we were huffing and puffing against Arsenal until Suarez and Meireles came on with quick one touch passing which finished Arsenal off and another sale where we could have made more(Champions League and Premier League Experince) except for Torres and Alonso we always sell players at a loss!
Why do we let players like Ince and Bruna leave for FREE when Southampton sell their youngesters for MILLIONS Ince proved he could play in League 1?

  5. Since KK took over:

    INS: Carrol £35m
    Suarez £22m
    Henderson £16m
    Downing £20m
    Adam £8m
    Enrique £6m
    Coates £7m
    Bellamy FREE
    Doni FREE

    TOTAL SPENT £114m

    OUTS:Torres £50m
    Babel £7m
    Mereiles £15m
    Ngog £4m
    Konchesky £1.5m

(this isn’t including undisclosed fees which probably raised an extra £4m+)
    TOTAL RECEIVED £77m
    NET SPEND £37m

Now I think you will agree after totally reshaping our squad £37m isn’t alot of money considering such a huge rebuilding jhob was needed. To show what a good job FSG/Comolli/KK have done:

    Suarez v Torres SUAREZ
    Babel v Carroll CARROLL
    Enrique v Konchesky ENRIQUE
    Coates v Kyriakos COATES
    Bellamy v Ngog BELLAMY
    Doni v B.Jones DONI
Mereiles v Henderson (jury is out on this one. mereiles is the more established of the 2 but i believe Henderson has the potential to be better than him)

Add Charlie Adam and the extremely impressive Downing into the mix and thats 8 positios significantly strengthened for £37m. Ad after trimming the wage bill considerably by getting rid of all the dead wood its been an extremely successful window!

    1. Excellent reply, more people should take note of this, instead of bleating about players that have left, or fantasy signings we didn’t make.

      1. I suppose if i were to pick out any negatives from the window it would be that we have lost a good BACK UP player in Mereiles but considering he is 28 we managed to get a healthy profit on a player whos departure wont weaken us too much or really strengthen the chavs either!plus Captain Fantastic will e back in a few weeks!i think Raul would have maybe even struggled to make the bench once Stevie returns so all in all it was probably best for all parties. YNWA!Onwards and Upwards!

        1. Lets hope Mereiles does turn into another Torres or Benny but remember the second half of last season Mereiles,Lucas,Maxi,Kuyt and Suarez we played some of the best pass and move football for 20 years!

        2. I’m not worried about Mereiles leaving at all. He was really only effective in one position (cm) where we have more than enough cover now, especially with gerrard to return. At the end of the day, he submitted a transfer request, and we made a profit on a 28/29 yr old, who didn’t really fit into FSG’s policy on players.
Also, he couldn’t tackle my granny!

          1. You’re right his tackling (or lack of should I say) has no place in the high tempo/ closing down from the front philosophy of Kenny’s new team. Very optimistic about the new season!YNWA

    2. Great point.

Add one more player to that mix, a player who is making a return to the team, someone who knows how to change a game…. Stevie G!

  6. redburns, you have hit the nail on the head with your remarks,it is not often i feel compelled to comment on remarks in any thread,BUT your’piece’ has prompted me.It has accounted for ALL activity since KD&DC’s arrival in terms of FACTS,with little room for reactionist(vis a vis Meireles)opinion.-Wide ranging, comprehensive and insightful, Well done, and keep it going!

  7. Agree with justin and redburns, i would be happy if we finish above 4. And beating manu at trafford. That would b awesome. Raul will meet same fate like yossi, and torres (to-rrest)

  8. Agree with justin and redburns, i would be happy if we finish above 4. And beating manu at trafford. That would b awesome. Raul will meet same fate like yossi, and torres

  9. I’m hoping for at least 3rd. I know alot of people might think this is a tad optimistic but i genuinly think we have a better squad than Arsenal, Spurs and even Chelsea on paper. Guess it all depends on how they perform over the course of the season and injuries/suspensions but with abit of luck top 3 isn’t beyond us.

  10. Have we lost ince he looked amazing apart from that our business this time round has been awesome Thankyou comolli kk and fws

  11. As far as meireles goes…1) Meireles wanted to leave, to force him to stay would have made the whole situation bad. No matter how much you think meireles going was a bad thing or not he handed in a written transfer request. 2) Stevie’s back soon so you could almost think of it as meireles going out and stevie coming in so we’re not losing much there. I say good luck Raul, just not against us!
