You’re not wrong, Lucas!

Brazilian anchorman Lucas has come in for huge praise in recent weeks after playing a key role in our season revival, and quite rightly so…

The 28-year-old has only been on the losing side on three occasions in 2014/15, and since winning a spot in the starting XI, Lucas has given the side a fantastic defensive platform in central midfield.

Asked if he believed he’d found his best form since his knee injury in November 2011, Lucas told the official website:

“After that injury, it’s probably my best moment. As I’ve said before in a few interviews I’ve given, I feel myself again and I feel really sharp, really strong and go into games thinking I have got nothing to lose.

“I just enjoy them because in football you never know what is going to happen. We always know that after a bad or difficult moment always comes a good moment and vice versa.

“I just have to enjoy my football and really concentrate on keeping at the level of performance I’m playing at the moment. I think if I do that, I can be in the team and help.

“That’s what I probably wasn’t able to do at the beginning of the season, so I like to feel that I am helping – and that’s how I feel now.”

There have been heavy rumours that Lucas would leave Liverpool this January, with Serie A clubs such as Napoli and Inter Milan credited with an interest, but the club would be absolutely mad to let him leave this month.

In fact, he’s played so well, that he’s one of the first names on the team-sheet right now – and captain Steven Gerrard is being accommodated into the front three to allow him to continue his midfield partnership with Jordan Henderson.

Only Nathaniel Clyne in the Premier League averages more tackles than Lucas (whoscored), and our stalwart midfielder is in the top 20 for interceptions, too.

Long may it continue.
