If this report is to be believed, Liverpool are working on Virgil van Dijk alternatives after all…
The Express reckon that we’re currently locked in discussions with Lazio over the sale of Lucas Leiva, but during talks – we’re asking them about the possibility of either Stefan de Vrij or Wallace coming the other direction.
De Vrij is the better known of the pair, representing the Netherlands on multiple occasions. He’s 25-years-old and despite having a horrible injury record, is a very elegant, composed centre-back.

Wallace is lesser known. The Brazilian is 22-years-old and was permanently transferred to the Italians from Braga last summer, despite having never played for them. His ownership history is murky, with complications over Jorge Mendes’s holding company buying his rights as a teenager.
In terms of talent, Wallace is very highly thought of – although he lacks the top level experience our backline needs.
De Vrij isn’t regarded as a leader either, and in truth, we’d be fairly disappointed if either of the Lazio duo arrived this summer as our big name centre-back signing.
If Lucas wants to try his luck in Italy, we’d wish him all the luck in the world however, following ten loyal years on Merseyside.
