Dubious… Andriy Yarmolenko to Liverpool rumours resurface following wonder-goal v Everton

A realistic possibility, or just another name drawn out of the hat by the British media?

Liverpool are reportedly lining up a move for 25-year-old Dynamo Kiev wide-man Andriy Yarmolenko, in what at least seems a plausible transfer ‘exclusive’ from the Daily Star.

The winger was voted man-of-the-match during Kiev’s 5-2 Europa League demolition of Everton on Thursday evening, a result which saw our Merseyside neighbours crash out of the competition 6-5 on aggregate.

According to the Star, we’re ‘weighing up’ a move in the region of £20m, as Brendan Rodgers prepares for the potential, but still overwhelmingly unlikely exit of contract rebel Raheem Sterling.

There are certainly a lot of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ about this one, but it’s hard to argue with the fact that Yarmolenko would, in all likelihood, be a good signing for us, and offer us something completely different with his natural width.

Manchester United and Chelsea have both shown an interest in the player in the past, while even West Ham United and Newcastle United have been linked with a move for the in-form star over the last 12 months.

Yarmolenko has scored 15 goals in 29 games in all competitions so far this season, taking his overall record for Kiev to 88 goals in 237 games – an impressive tally for someone who doesn’t even play up front.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on this one with interest…
