Liverpool deadline day rumour roundup – Yarmolenko lazily linked yet again

Posted by

It appears that the only major deals will be those of players leaving Liverpool today, with Jose Enrique on the verge of completing a deal to West Brom for a nominal fee (via the Metro).

While this move is likely to happen, there’s a few other more tedious rumours circling the web.

First, the Daily Express and the Daily Star are both claiming Liverpool are ready to bid £14.5m for Andriy Yarmolenko – which will activate his release clause.

The Ukrainian winger is well known to Liverpool fans having been linked last summer, and the summer before as well – while Everton, Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal have been linked again this time around.

But don’t hold your breath – it’s just not going to happen.

Nor is Alberto Moreno to Real Madrid we imagine, despite the report by Italian Tuttomercato – cited in the Echo.

Tuttomercato reckon Rafa Benitez has earmarked our Spaniard as a backup option to Marcelo – having shipped out Fabio Coentrao to Monaco this window.

But with Enrique moving to the Hawthorns, and Joe Gomez struggling against West Ham – it seems unlikely that we’ll sell Moreno having only purchased him a year ago.

Overall this summer – eight players have arrived – with Christian Benteke (£32.5m) and Roberto Firmino (£21.3m rising to £28.4m) the two marquee deals.

Raheem Sterling joined Manchester City, while Steven Gerrard, Brad Jones, Fabio Borini, Iago Aspas, Javier Manquillo, Glen Johnson, Rickie Lambert and Sebastian Coates also left permanently.

A plethora of players have departed on loan, the most notable being Mario Balotelli and Lazar Markovic.
