Liverpool offer Mamadou Sakho new £100k-per-week contract

Well this is a serious turn up for the books, and news that will likely appease many Liverpool fans…

We’ve offered Mamadou Sakho a bumper contract extension which will see his contract jump from £75k-per-week to £100k-per-week, confirms the Guardian.

This is despite the fact that the powerful Frenchman’s been left out of Brendan Rodgers’ side for the opening two matches of the Premier League season, with the manager preferring Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren.

Rodgers has even chosen Kolo Toure ahead of the 25-year-old France vice-captain on the bench, which has led to multiple rumours about Sakho’s unhappiness and potential departure – with Roma and Bayer Leverkusen both making bids.

We rejected their advances though (via Sky Sports), which proves, along with the contract news – that Sakho is part of our plans going forward.

The report confirms that Sakho is not going to jump into accepting the deal though and will see what first-team opportunities come his before accepting.

But with only two more matches until the transfer window closes, it’s unlikely he’ll get a game soon.

The new contract is a smart move by Liverpool. It’ll hopefully convince Sakho to knuckle down and earn his place, and put more pressure on Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren to maintain their performances.

We want Sakho to be part of our squad for the foreseeable and we hope he feels the same.
