Liverpool striker ruled out, Origi fine but last minute fitness test on key man

Liverpool will be without Christian Benteke for the game with Tottenham on Saturday, although in truth, the Belgian wouldn’t have started anyway.

His international team-mate Divock Origi is fit, but star Brazilian Roberto Firmino will face a late fitness test in order to feature following a hamstring problem which occurred before the international break.

This was confirmed by manager Jurgen Klopp today in his pre-match press conference, as tweeted by Times journalist Tony Barrett.

There were suggestions we’d only have Daniel Sturridge fit for the Spurs tie, so it’s great to have Origi as another option, and hopefully Firmino as well.

Origi’s looked sharp but Firmino has been nothing short of sensational throughout this calendar year. He missed our defeat to Southampton, but we need him back – especially against Borussia Dortmund on Thursday if this weekend proves too soon.

Even if Firmino is ready, Klopp has Coutinho, Adam Lallana, James Milner and even Jordon Ibe for attacking midfield, so it’s not like he doesn’t have other options if he’d prefer to rest the no.11.
