Liverpool target Gotze’s future discussed by Bayern boss

Mario Gotze’s potential transfer to Liverpool has been drawn out for quite some time now, with the ‘will he, won’t he‘ nature of the deal starting to infuriate many fans. New Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti hasn’t exactly done much to help the situation either, remaining incredibly coy regarding the German international’s future, as reported by Bild (via ESPN).

The most recent reports suggested the World Cup winner had turned down a move to Liverpool as he viewed it as a step backwards in his career (via the Express), although after making just 14 starts for Bayern in all competitions last season his career was already in serious danger of spiralling horribly.

Jurgen Klopp has reportedly made the 23-year-old one of his top targets, and we all know the success he experienced under the German manager at Borussia Dortmund.

Viewing Liverpool as a step down may well just be paper talk and rumours, but if we’re looking for any new information we’re not going to get it from Ancelotti – who remained extremely tight lipped when quizzed about Gotze.

“I’ve spoken to Mario on the phone,” Ancelotti told Bild.

“He’s aware of my opinion.”

Gotze is unquestionably a supremely talented player and would be a fantastic summer signing, but this protracted saga is starting to tire many Liverpool fans. He’s in danger of drifting off into obscurity if he remains at Bayern Munich, and holding out for a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid (via the Express) is unlikely to solve his problem.

A summer switch to Liverpool seems like it would be a fantastic move for all involved, with Gotze hopefully able to find his best form once again under the manager who orchestrated his initial rise to fame.

This is likely to prove a hugely important summer for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, with the former Bundesliga boss showing real signs that he is capable of getting us back to the top.
