Joao Teixiera latest: Playmaker to snub Liverpool offer & move to European giants

Posted by

Joao Teixeira is poised to reject the opportunity to stay at Liverpool in favour of joining Porto.

Reports from Portuguese outlet O Jogo, cited in the Echo, claim that the 23-year-old playmaker has agreed a five-year deal to move to the Estadio do Dragao, returning to his native land.

Teixeira’s contract at Anfield expires this summer. The Echo understands that he was offered fresh terms, but has decided to move on in the hope of finding more regular first-team football.

Although he is leaving on a free transfer, the Reds will pocket around £250,000 from any potential switch as a ‘development fee’ if Teixeira signs for a non-English club, according to the Echo.

Despite only making eight senior appearances for us, scoring once in this season’s FA Cup against Exeter City, Teixeira seems to have bagged himself a long-term deal at a top European club.

And the Echo adds that Atletico Madrid, Real Betis, and Fiorentina all remain interested in Teixeira. Porto are in pole position to sign him, four and a half years after he joined us from Sporting Lisbon.
