18-year-old Frenchman could replace Liverpool’s longest serving player

Lucas out, Ludovic Blas in…?

Who knows, but what is probable is that our Brazilian anchorman is available for sale. And what is possible is that we’re interested in the teenage French midfielder.

Lucas has been injured throughout the summer, but with a plethora of central midfield options at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal – he’s unlikely to be needed in 2016/17.

With the arrivals of Gini Wijnaldum and Marko Grujic, Lucas has slipped further down the pecking order – having been a regular starter for much of his nine year stint since arriving in 2007 from Gremio.

Galatasaray are no longer interested in the 29-year-old, but we’d be surprised if he were still around before the transfer window shuts – especially once Liverpool’s current injury situation clears up.

Blas is at the other end of his career, having impressed at Guingamp last term. In 14 appearances, he scored once and is a big target for ourselves, Lyon and Inter Milan as a result. He’s technically astute and composed on the ball, with decision making that belies his age.

L’Equipe, via talkSPORT, confirm our interest, but state the Ligue 1 minnows are desperate to keep Blas and will try to renew his contract.

This is the kind of cheap, young option Klopp has targeted in the past – and he fits in with the type of player we’ve been targeting under FSG, too.

There’s a chance we’ll choose to keep Lucas in case of emergency, but don’t be surprised if one or two promising youngsters aren’t also brought in while we clear away the deadwood during August.
