Late-1990s Liverpool full-back fighting for his life after heart problems

Former Liverpool full-back Rigobert Song is fighting for his life in a hospital in Cameroon this evening.

The 40-year-old ex-football played for us between January 1999 and November 2000, appearing 35 times after signing for £2.7 million. He eventually moved to West Ham United.

He also played for Galatasaray, Koln, Lens, Metz and Trabzonspor, and won a gold medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. He won 137 caps for Cameroon.

The Echo reports that the player is in a critical condition after being rushed to hospital with a brain aneurysm. He was rushed to a medical facility in the city of Yaounde.

Song still has ties to the game. He is the uncle of former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, and is currently the manager of the Chad national side.
